4GS mega thread (UPDATED; preview drives, specs, more interior pics)

The 4GS looks and sounds amazing! My poor little 450h may be on the back burner sooner than I expected.
About the power trains I think its important that we take a step back. As nice as it would've been to have new engines I think we may be expecting too much. Lets look at the competition.
E60 debuted with an outdated 25i, 30i, and 45i and later upgraded those at the LCI to the 28i, 35i, and 50i. The F10 debuted with the same 28i and 35i we saw in the E60. The 50i option is the same engine we saw earlier in the 7 and X6 (essentially carried over-they didn't debut any new engines in the 5). The new A6 comes with the same 3.0T the last A6 got after its LCI. Hell the E350 debuted with the same dinosaur, anemic power plant as the generation before it too. Now the 4GS may come with the same (perhaps modestly improved) 2GR-FSE from the LCI 3GS. If you ask me it's a great engine and Lexus was ahead of its time with D4S tech.
The transmission is a bit of a disappointment but we may see an upgrade later down the road. They have to keep some tricks up their sleeves to keep sales up later in its life. If you ask me the 6 speed is at a bare minimum adequate and will serve the car well. Then they will introduce a 450h with the planetary gearbox. Something more advanced and efficient than any of the competition's offerings. I think it's going to be a great launch.
My 3GS isn't going anywhere--it's basically perfect and I love it... But it may have a new garage mate.

Also, looks like these will have the "HUD" technology for the front windshield..
"Heads Up Display" image can be seen on the front glass!!!
LoL at not looking close enough ..
Not sure why there are mixed reports from the magazines saying is a 2012 and/or 2013...
The offical launch will carry after the 7 year cycle ends on the current GS platform.
So if history repeats itself... (which it normally does)
These new test mules represent a MY 2013 - GS platform
Which I have been saying for well over a year now....

Pole Position
I hate the BMW direction Lexus is going in. ITs really just the nav but still. not a fan at all. Cringe worthy. And wat the hell is up w that gear shifter? the leather better come off.

Just in case others have not heard yet, but the GS will be introduced first as a 350, then in September will come the Hybrid, followed by the F-Sport at SEMA in November. NO standard V8 GS. GSF is expected to be shown some time during 2012.

Lexus Fanatic
the current GS already has over 15 cuft of trunk space.
I dunno how they eeked it out. but it has 15.

"If Lexus is serious about this whole "fun to drive" business, you'd think a buttoned-down, high-performance GS with the thundering 416-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 from the IS F under the hood would be a no-brainer, but Lexus insiders remain cagey on the matter, merely pointing out the IS F engine is now relatively old, and that tough new fuel economy laws on the way suggest it might not have much of a future."
