4GS mega thread (UPDATED; preview drives, specs, more interior pics)

Multiple preview articles have mentioned headroom is increased, as has thigh room and the seats themselves sit a bit lower for improved interior space. This to me is as "usable" as it gets. Also look closely at the pictures, in the rear you can see "grooves" molded into the headliner where the rear passenger's heads would be, for improved headroom. Again, that seems very usable to me.
4GS has lower seat cushion height compared to 3GS, according to several preview drives so far. 4GS also has increased headroom space than 3GS according to the same preview drives. Finally, pictures show us "grooves" molded into the headliner in the rear for additional headroom, something the 3GS doesn't have.
I hope you also realize there is lens distortion in the picture, and that there is still several inches of headroom space between his head and the headliner.

I'll stick to the facts, no armchair analysis here. The facts tell me 4GS rear seating room has improved compared to 3GS rear seating room. Is it best-in-class? No, but the key is that it has improved while the overall size of the 4GS has remained about the SAME. It's not as big as the new E-Class or 5 Series, nor is it as heavy. The improved space comes from much improved interior and mechanical packaging, something Lexus must be commended for.

and i will say it again. i have high hope of the 4gs, and i do want it to get spacious. so far it looks good on both cabin space and trunk space, but i just want to reserve my judgment until i see the car myself in person. i have been disappointed so many times before

Henry, I totally agree with you. Sometimes what's on paper doesn't really translate into the real world. I've been in cars where one would physically measure better, but when you sit in the car, it feels more congested. If the cabin was a box, then yes, 1" wider mean 1" wider but when you're talking about a car, the numbers become more irrelevant. It's one of those things where you actually have to sit inside to really tell if there is enough space because there are obstacles in the way.

Autoblog is the best read if you want info IMO. The guy was a fan of the 3GS, and he said the 4GS he drove was better, roomier and would probably be his new favorite GS. Note that he drove the cars back to back. As did all of the 'journalists'. If they say it's bigger and it feels bigger, it most likely is. Unless they're spinning some Lexus PR- but Autoblog isn't really known for that.

sorry but to me i need hybrid to go against v8 otherwise lexus has a hole that they can't fill.
550i - 400hp
e550 - 382hp (upcoming engine will be 435hp)
m56 - 420hp
so i don't know what the hybrid should be in order to be in the ball park. 380-390? infiniti m has the hybrid, but keep in mind they also have a v8 so the hybrid can gear more towards efficiency. 4gs doesn't sound like it will have v8 so far

The other thing that favors turbos is that people who care about horsepower and torque can easily tune them. My 550i will be Dinan Stage 1 which for an additional 3k gives me 495hp and 571 lbft torque.

GS350 - 303hp
GS460 - 342hp
GS450h - 340hp
IMO, the 350 needs to be 400hp. If they're planning to ditch the 460, then they better hope for 450hp out of the H.
GSF - nothing less than 500, but closer to 550hp with an 85K+ price tag.
Why does the Lexus website advertise it to be "The 2013 GS"....are they skipping 2012?

Agree that a GS-F with anything less than low 500+ hp will be an half-a$$ attempt, they might as well pack it in and forget about the F variant ...

The LFA is a one time thing only, it's only 500 buyers even if they sell them all, they should really care a lot more about offering a credible product in their regular line-up.
Besides, those buyers who actually bought it probably look at $400K like it's $40 for the average person, and the difference between a $400k car and a $100K car as nothing ...

When I said "today's 4.6L V8's output", I meant from the LS460, not the detuned GS460.
I would be ecstatic if that is true. The 350 might have 5~10 more hp if Lexus want us to feel better, but sounds like it will be a direct carry over......nothing change at all. Which they did back when the 3GS came out, the GS430 had zero increase of hp from the 2GS 430.
That would happen in an ideal dream world.

I mean Lexus offering 500hp within their lineup. I wish they'd bring the GS-F out as a competitor to that class. Oh man i wish.
I agree completely but the mistake has been made and we'll all have to suffer for it in my opinion. Just saying realistically that we've seen nothing from Lexus to justify even beginning to think of a 500 hp number coming from any model. The fact that the powertrains have been discussed so infrequently in the releases has me a bit worried.
They don' t need a 500+ hp GS-F to alienate buyers, they already did it themselves by screwing up badly the pricing of the LFA.
