A cheaper car within the same brand is what I think they'd have a problem with. Especially since it was touted as having so much exclusivity. There has to be a ceiling as to how close Lexus will allow the rest of it's lineup to come to the LFA is my thinking.

I'm not so sure about that. It's not like the straight-line power and HP was what attracted LF-A owners. The car doesn't even do that well in a drag race compared to similarly priced rivals. The car is about balance, handling, and exotic materials so as long as the GS-F doesn't get a better Ring time or get made from a CF chassis I think it'll be okay to be close to the LF-A HP numbers

The LFA should have been sold at C$220,000 (US$200,000), only reason I say that, the McLAREN MP4-12C sells for C$247,000. True at that price, it be only $75,255 more expensive than fully-equipped LS600hL.

Anyways, the BMW M5 (2011) weighs a whopping 4288 pounds. It is a 4.4L BiTurbo V8 that puts out 560 hp and 681 Nm of torque. The 0-62 mph time is around 3.7 seconds.

The Lexus GS-F, if it was tuned to 450 hp and the car weighed about 3800 pounds with a DSG transmission and with AWD, it could do 0-62 mph in about 3.8 seconds. Seeing it wont have AWD and no DSG, it will be stuck doing probably 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds. The GS-F will be pretty much a larger IS-F, but more expensive and pretty much the same performance.

I feel the same way, but only during the same period.

Like how when the 650 hp Enzo and 605 hp Carrera GT came out around 2003, none of their much cheaper cars have anywhere close to that HP level. But now that after 7-8 years, their regular line up start to match or exceed that power level......599 GTO with 670 hp, FF got 650 hp, 997 GT2 RS got 620 hp.

So no, Lexus won't make any 2014 GS-F with anywhere close to 560 hp that the LFA have that they are currently selling, that's why the rumor of 465 hp make sense. But the next generation GS-F in 2020 could have 500~550 hp.

for those who think that $400k is a significant sum , they are really not that wealthy at all , seriously . Of course wealthy people care about money , but really wealthy people quite often don't bother to think too much about a measely $400k , it's not worth their time to sweat over that , they would put their attention on really significant sums of money , like how to make another few hundred millions or more.

but you have to realize that the LFA was in the development for about 10 years. haha

so I am still hoping 550hp GS-F per your theory.

I don't know who you know, but everyone I know who is wealthy to uber-rich, and who worked hard to make their money, count pennies and dimes. Now, they will drop big bucks when they need/want to, but they all have a hawk's eye regarding their finances. It's the opposite from what you say. Everything matters. From the big to the small. Except no one knows what their total wealth is. LOL.

Agree completely. That's why I'm setting my predictions at 420-430hp so Lexus can do something it hasn't done in years and exceed my expectations when it comes to the GS.

Yes it would make much more sense as a car if they mass produced the LFA and sell it at $200k....$250k max. With everything considered, I feel the LFA is a little higher then the V10 R8 but slightly lesser or equal to the 458.

The only reason the LFA cost so much right now is the low volume. But I think Toyota don't think they can sell a large amount of LFA, so they choose the low volume exclusive approach.

Yes from all rumors and indications, the GS-F will be exactly that. A larger IS-F with more luxury and amenities for $10k~$15k more, exact same drivetrain......that 5.0L V8 with the 8-speed tranny with lock up torque converter. Hopefully the rumor is true that they free up the intake and exhaust a bit to make 465 hp. It sure would be disappointing if is a direct carry over with 416 hp, but I won't be surprise.

It would be the exact formula as the AMG C63/E63/S63, identical drivetrain on different size chassis and body. The C63 is detuned down to 450 hp initially, but free up a bit to 480 hp with the performance package. Maybe the 416 hp on the IS-F is the detuned version, it will free up to 465 hp for the GS-F. It make sense too now that I am talking out loud, 416 hp is pretty low for a direct injection 5.0L V8, it should make 100 hp/L pretty easily.

I think Lexus is doing everything right. IMHO, all these HP wars are pointless. Even if Lexus will beat the BWM by a few miliseconds. How many would actually buy the GS-F ? Same goes for M models. Only a few will buy cars like these. The majority buys base models anyway. That's where the real money is made. So, I think that from a business point of view, it is better if Lexus focus more on what the majority want. A car that drives well and well equiped, will sell well. Also, the pricing is very important. Especially now, in this economy. We already saw how ridiculously overpriced a Lexus can be.....

how canthey be counting nickels and dimes if they are not sure how much they are worth exactly ? Lol , of course they care about finances , but a LFA is their nickels and dimes, which may matter a little but insignificant . That sum isn't even worth their time to think much about it , they focus on bigger more important things .

Where I live , there are no lack of kids who just got their license got SL's , M3's , cars in the $100k range from their parents , if they could give cars like those to their kids , a $400 k car isn't really that significant . They are wealthy but certainly not billionares .
Of course there are always exceptions to everything when it comes to how rich people spend their money , it depends ontheir likes/dislikes . Some rich people don't even indulge on cars or jewelleries or mist luxurious goods at all .

i wonder what m5 and e amg will have at 2020. my bet is more than 600hp

i will continue to see how lexus handle the whole gsf development. one wrong move, they kill not just the car, but pull down what isf has built for the brand as well

Armchair racers care only for numbers. The LFA hasn't even officially tested using launch control. Even the STIG said it was his favorite over the GT2 and the 458. EVO magazine said it was a step above anything else there in their performance car of the year, and they were driving pre-production cars. The Nurb edition already did a 7:22 around the Ring not even on a hot lap. Just because it 'only' has 562hp doesn't mean Lexus won't make a more powerful car. If anyone recalls the taken down pictures of the GTE LFA and the TMG LS, that car had over 600hp. Maybe the GS-F will be 3600lbs. maybe it'll be a 'performance hybrid', maybe it'll have 500hp, maybe not. Who cares right now? It hasn't even been announced.

Now that I thought about the C63/E63/S63 example, it is very likely that the earlier report of 465 hp is accurate.

Especially now that the M56 got 420 hp, Genesis 5.0 R-Spec and 5.0 Equus got 429 hp. It would be embarrassing if the GS-F only got 416 hp-430 hp. A little higher 465 hp make a lot of sense.
