IT IS about bragging rights, and not about making sense or gas mileage at all. Luxury cars in this price range is about excess much more than about making sense.
We don't want a GS-F that makes sense because of gas mileage. They already have a GSh to fill that role, the GS-F needs to fill another role for extreme performance, not a half way between F car that neither has very good gas mileage nor outstanding performance and gets walked over by it's 550 hp+ competition. That can actually be quite damaging to the 4GS and the "F" division of Lexus and they might as well not bother with a GS-F at all.

I got a problem when people quote you and don't read what you even said. Why would Lexus put the same engine from the IS-F in the GS-F and leave it at the same specification? IS WHAT I SAID. What I'm getting at is the IS-F engine already under achieves itself! If you read the rest of my comment you would understand what I was getting at. The engine was TONED DOWN! This has been stated before by Yamaha when the question of high revs was brought up in comparison to the V8 in the M3. They said that longevity was the key, not an 8000rpm redline. But it can be done, with the same engine. I gave the example of the LS460 TMG edition photo that was taken down. 9000rpm redline, exact size of the IS-F engine, producing over 600hp! There's no reason to think it'll be the exact same engine but not have different specifications to it. It's already been done!

Lexus' willingness (or lack thereof) to subject a future GS F to the guzzler tax will certainly influence how powerful it is or isn't.

Again, where is the middle ground? I have zero interest in a hybrid for the simple reason that the math simply doesn't work. The cost does not justify the means, and if they are anything like the current GS hybrid, they totally compromise luggage space.
BTW, I already have a "fossil fuel burning, ozone depleting, in your face performance...". It's a Z06 Corvette with 505 hp. I easily get 26mpg on the highway, and in three years of owning it I am averaging around 21. No, I didn't buy it for gas mileage, but having the economy, range per tank and still having a low 11 second 1/4 mile car isn't such a bad thing!
there is absolute no real need for a 300+hp car either. for what most people do, anything 250hp or lower should be more than enough.
and these cars are about bragging rights. yup they are faster, that's it. and people who can truly afford these cars they are more than capable to afford the gas. anyone sensible about gas won't be looking at these cars at all. i get asked too when i get my m3 when the 335i has so much power already. i have no problem with paying for the gas, and the fact that i get so much more fun driving the m3 over the few 335 (even modded) i have driven, that's enough reason for myself

Let me first say that I do understand your point. But the problem I have is that they are giving up the middle ground. I'd rather have 400 hp that offers reasonable range than 500 that is out of my price range in both purchase price and economy. It would be like BMW or MB offering the M or AMG, but not the 550 versions in between. And they do quite well selling their 550's. That's really all I'm saying - I want the 460 back, but not the neutered 460 they have been offering.

If you think 250 hp is enough good on you. I don't.

For the GS460, most markets get the 1GR-FSE engine. For markets like ours, we just get the 1GR-FE engine. So yeah, the main difference lies in the presence or absence of Toyota D4-S direct injection
There is a 20 hp difference.
Btw
Lexus has a policy to not sell direct injection engines in certain markets due to fuel quality issues. Markets such as the GCC (Middle East), Philippines, Brunei and Indonesia are among those included.
This is the reason why get the IS 300 which can run even on ****-poor quality fuel.........and that's why we get that instead of the IS250/IS350 that everyone else gets.
Lexus doesn't want to tarnish its reputation if it sells direct injection engines in our markets then craps out when fed with dirty fuel. Lexus does not want to risk that.............hence why our markets don't get direct injection models.
