I'd like to feature some 'live reporting' in our new 4GS forum if you have mobile access there on your observations.
Check out the release rsvp thread. Some members are suppose to be going.

You can always find positive from something negative, it is actually great that the 4GS being what it is, it helps you save money by not wanting a new car

I actually love it, I really shouldn't say all these bad things about it. This 4GS makes me love our 2GS Sport Design that much more. It is a classic that just can't be surpass.

I think that everyone's negative judgement's will go down the drain when they officially release it tomorrow. It seems like every thing Lexus does, people will always pick out the flaws and never be satisfied.

I just don't want the GS to get lost in the middle, between the ES and LS again
From what I've heard, the new ES is supposed to be "gorgeous". Very concerning considering the current state of the ES/GS relationship, and what we have seen of the 4GS so far.

I still vividly remembered when the GS400 came out in 1998, it was shockingly amazing, both in looks (interior and exterior) and specs and performance.

I remembered seeing it on the cover of every auto magazines, with huge letter "300 HP, 0-60 in 6.0 SECONDS!!".

That was when the E430 had 275 hp and 540i had 286 hp, and the GS400 had a 5-speeds while all the Germans still had a 4-speeds I think. They were all way slower then the GS400. The Germans were all doing 0-60 in 6.5~6.8 range.

That was when I fell in love with the GS, and Lexus in general. I think that apply to most Lexus enthusiasts that is old enough when the GS400 came out.

If Lexus want to repeat the EPICness of the 1998 GS400, the 4GS would have to be a GS500 with a twin turbo 4.6L V8 making 450 hp with a 9 speeds auto and be handsome like a F10 5-series.

Thinking back, makes me so sad. What is happening to you, our beloved Lexus? My huge Lexus enthusiasm is slowly dying inside

Of course Lexus as a company is fully capable to repeat the epic-ness of the 1998 GS400, the question is do they want to, it doesn't feels like that is the direction they are heading at all.

See my above post, today's F10 550i is twin turbo 4.4L V8 with 400 hp, the W212 E550 will probably get the twin turbo 4.6L V8 with 435 hp soon. So if Lexus want to trump them like back in 1998, it needs a twin turbo V8 with 450 hp in a GS500 with a 9-speeds tranny. Do you see that happening at all?

Tons of economy cars have 6-Speeds today. Entry level luxury Audi A4 got 8-Speeds now. 9 and 10 speeds tranny is in full on development from various companies, it is just a matter of time before they come out, probably very soon like within the next 2 years. If the 4GS releasing tomorrow have a 9-Speeds, that would be a 1st. But all report said it got the same 6-speeds carrying over from the 3GS.

Totally agree. It's not the capability that's in question, it's the intent.

Lexus can totally make knock-your-socks off stuff (like the LFA) if they want to. But with this new GS, it seems like they specifically didn't want to make something that stands out, at least aesthetically speaking.

Toyota Motor Company can build the next Space Shuttle if they want to.

But feels like they are pushing fuel efficiency more then all out excess. Honda too, they even cancelled their V8 program and the new NSX.

The bad economy and the tsunami probably really humble them up, they want to be safe to lay low rather then go big to challenge the Europeans.

They have to increase fuel efficiency, the cheapest/easiest way is to add more gears.

Is not like they want to, is they have to. To meet government requirement.

As a GS lover.. I am not super excited about this new model...

Someone just help me get a trunk pass-though on a 2001 430 and I will be good to go!

I got my license the year the GS400 was introduced... I will still say that 1998 was an epic year for Lexus. The new LX, the 5 speed auto and 300hp... someone take me back!

I dont care about the wheels and wheel gap, to be honest, because new shoes/spacers/drop are must have mods anyway.

And looking at the camo'd pictures, I have lots of hope. Camo'd way better than those leaked pix. That white 'leaked pix' car just looks kinda bad, IMO....I don't even like the grille. I'd rather have the polarizing grill from the concept.

Again, I'm holding out hope. The concept looked so good, I think Lexus won't stray too far from that design, especially for the top-of-the-line models.
