good article. yes, the up shift lag time on the isf is exactly what i experienced. and the down shift lag time (very short) is great on the isf. speed and smooth usually don't go hand in hand with each other anyway. the smoother it is, the slower it is (in general). get in the lfa sport mode and shift speed to fast and man, it hurts
btw, does it make sense that isf has auto tranny so it shifts faster (the shift time itself) than computer controlled manual tranny? lfa shift time is 200ms, kind of silly if all those work on lfa and it shifts slower than isf

Its an interesting conundrum. But this isn't the only auto which has been engineered to shift so fast. The ZF auto in the Jag XFR is equally fast, and my understanding is that the new ZF 8-speed sport auto (optional on BMW 5) is also faster than many electro-hydraulic manuals. This is why BMW opted for auto instead of SMG 4 in the 2012 M5.
i am still a bit doubtful that isf shifts faster than lfa and a lot of other supercars. it's kind of like saying all those cars should have auto.
is it confirmed m5 will only have auto? thought it was just a report / rumor. that would suck, really
on the gs i guess it's ok, lexus has been auto mostly anyway, just like mb

It seems like they are developing a DCT for the M5, but most Ferraris are auto these days - 458 is the exception.
I'm sure you can make a hydraulic gearbox that is faster than an auto, but my understanding is that autos are so fast, that you don't want to go faster because of loss of smoothness. That is why Ferrari did not put an electro-hydraulic box in the California or the FF.

The Tesla unit is 17 inches I think
Anyways, like it or not, this is the future. Heck, by the next century I don't even know if cars will still have physical buttons.

I still find it funny that upscale car manufacturers continue to charge a high premium for a NAV option in cars when you can get just as good or better portable systems for $175-$300, by now NAV really should be standard in luxury makes.

I would think that with the nature of a car where your finger is constantly in movement because of road conditions, it would make more sense to have an actual button to rest your finger on instead of a touch screen...
And what if it ever froze? it would have to have a super fast cpu behind it. Right now, even with navs, there are redundancies built in for people for such a thing, in terms of air con and radio. If you make the whole dash a screen, you are screwed if anything happens to it, or if it breaks

So I'm guessing specifically the 4GS will debut at the LA Autoshow since it is usually the last week of November. Basically, the 4GS follows debuts right after the 2012 Camry is sold, since the Camry will debut April 22 and be sold in the fall.

I'm thinking it may debut before that..the big Frankfurt show is in September this year (alternates with Paris show which was in 2010). Though the LA show is a great guess.
