If they do release it early 2012 as a 2013, that would make the current GS one hell of a long run. Too long in my opinion. A hotly contested segment needs fresher products much faster than that.

it's the norm.
bmw: 2004-2010
gs: 2006-2012.
mbz: 2003-2009
only infiniti has the shortest cycle.
it's really not about how fresh it is. people just prefer german cars.
with the 5 and E, I can't even tell which year is which. The refreshes were all so subtle.

5-6 years is about right cycle for new models I think.

I think 3GS run started in 2005 but it carried 2006 on a sticker in US only. It was 2005MY in rest of the world. So it would basically be a 6 year run if they start selling 4GS in March of 2012 but it felt so long. Maybe because "facelifts" were just too light.

regardless of what model year was designated to them, all of the cars in this segment will have had 7 full calendar years' life. except the infiniti.
GS started selling spring 2005, and will continue to spring 2012.

I, like most owners of the E/5/GS are quite satisfied seeing minimal changes and having a good 7 or so year cycle. If I want a car that changes every 3-5 years I'll get a Toyota.

Yes, b/c luxury car buyers do not want to see their car change every 4-5 years, especially if they dropped serious coin on it. Since most Infinitis are rebadged Nissans they simply use the Nissan cycle and not their own. They also depend on leasing so they are not building brand loyalty, just lease payments.
