if they offer some as a V8, why does it bother you so much?

Can't wait to test drive and check out the real car.

Who is on the same boat with me?
As a MD graduated from an online school, I still want a V8. Luckily, BMW still makes them.

I know many enthusiasts said they wanted the V8 version but that number is so small comparing to the people who opted for the V6. They may LOOSE 2000 sales on the V8 takers but gain 10000 more sales when they make the V6 better. It is all about COSTS vs Benefits and when one is outweigh the other it is next to impossible to pick the the lost one.

BMW and MB do NOT sales that many in their V8 top-of-the-line models. The reason their numbers are high because most buyers opt for the 528/530 or E350.
I see plenty of E550's and 550i's in my neck of the woods. I would say a good 1/3 appear to be V8's that I see in my area.

i will say this, i go around some rich neighborhoods very often. to be honest i see a lot more 550i and e550 (ratio wise) than 535i and e350. that tells me for the rich, they care about v8 (or maybe they can actually afford it). when it comes to luxury brands and image, having v8 has an advantage imho.

don't need to look far, just look here on clublexus. i will challenge everyone who attacked on acura before for not having v8 on their cars, including the flagship rl. and thus it has no place in luxury car segment. apply that on lexus with the gs (at least on v8 variant). luxury brands are all about extra when it comes to the brand itself

Why mention an MBA? Sounds very self serving.

An MBA? Oh no! My opinion is obviously worthless.

A V8 offering helps with image. Lexus would obviously know from past sales that the V8 is not the volume seller. But people sometimes want it, or at least the option to have it. Did they teach you that in your MBA program?

As I've said before, I bought my GS 400 because I WANTED it, not because I needed it.
The same justification could be said for my NSX, MR2, Plasma TV, etc.

just like you and mike mentioned, if it's not gs400, i am not sure if lexus can even be on the page at all in the mid-size sedan segment with 5 and e

You guys are all missing my point.

What I was saying is the case between COST vs BENEFIT or in this case cost vs profit. It is not about wants and needs. Nobody needs a V8 as a mean of transportation, but they want it just because they want to have it.

Now about the "image" you guys talk about. When your business is good and you have extra resources you can do that; however, it does not make sense when you are playing catch up then why would you (as a CEO/CFO of the company) choose to go that route?

This is just my Point of View so there is NO right or wrong. Remember, to each of his own.

***Sorry, my English may be not as good as yours since I am an ELL....
