Remote Engine Starter
I noticed on the "Accessories" portion of the "Build your GS" on lexus.com .. there is a renmote start accessory.
Anyone know anything about this one ?? Dealer installed accessory or Port Installed Option (PIO) ??
Anyone want to take a guess at price ??

Some folks are pleased with it, others not so much mostly due to the range being inadequate in their use cases. There's a thread in the RX forum here.

Some of the comments I read from another thread (i.e. the RX thread) is that if your car is off, you can start it by pressing the lock button twice then press and hold it for a third time until the engine and car starts.
But I read that when you touch the vehicle's door handle, the car shut off again. I have a question: Does this apply even if you have the key with you???
P.S.
But nevertheless, this is interesting (for Lexus to now have it as a stock or official feature).
It kinda reminds me of this:
"VIPER DISARM!!!"

The factory one is brutal if your intent is to start the car from more than 30 feet. Here it is useless as by the time I walked out of the office to start the car with the remote, I might as well get into the car and start it myself. It is cold here and the point of a starter is to warm up the car before you go outside.
I put in the VIper 5501 and Smart Start which is a waaaaay better option. You get the funtionality of the factory key fob and it will work via a smartphone anywhere there is cell service. With the factory one or an afermarket starter the car is wired so that it turns off if you open the door to the car. This ia a safety feature to keep someone from driving away with your car. Remote starters typically turn off the car when you step on the brake if the keys are not inserted and turned on. As the new cars do not have keys.. they use the door to kill the circuit.
