Sales went up last month with the launch of the new ES. Having driven the new ES (style not finished with review) its a great car but doesn't drive anything like a GS and the craftsmanship, options is down. It is cheaper and larger inside

ES 7,557 August. (mind you many were 2012 closeouts)

Sadly the GS outsold the Infiniti M 3 to 1..they sold 666 cars last month

5/E will surely dominate.

BMW 5 series was 1,688 for the month! So the GS outsold it at least.

I just read an article in Bloomberg saying Lexus' total sales last month outpaced both Mercedes and BMW. It was the first time since December 2010 (prior to the tsunami). Sales were up 34%!

My interpretation of Lexus being back on top is that they can invest more in their current and future products, regardless of which cars they are. I don't really care about which cars are driving the sales. I want my new GS-F or Lexus Coupe.

I am a toyota owner now, never thought I'd switch from BMW. Having owned a 323, 335, 550, M3 and just recently my M6, now to an IS-F. I was actually starting out to find another M3, but when I took my wifes IS in for her free oil change, I hooked up with her salesman on a few test drives. The GS is a very nice car and if it werent for the F sitting there when I tested the GS, I would of bought the GS. That car is very nice and I suspect BMW and other owners will agree. I am no brand loyalist, but when I see a great product, and the reliability that goes with it, its usually a no brainer. In the coming years, I see Toyota realy picking it up. As for me, I do not regrett my purchase....

Me too. After 12 years of owning 4 different BMW's I made the switch to the 2013 GS350 after being very disappointed in the new models of BMW and direction they were going. I have been immensely happy with this car and have no regrets at all.

Same here! I have owned BMWs in the past with the recent one being the latest 2011 BMW 535i xdrive (F10 code name) which was dissapointing and lost the unique characteristic of BMW driving feel. The Lexus GS F-sport feels more natural and more fun to drive then the 5 I had. It is alot better than my 2006 GS300 awd too. We still have the 2008 BMW 335i xdrive coupe which is the best BMW in my opinion.

It's a pity the 4GS is beginning to lag behind; the 4GS deserves better than that.
However, Benz and Beamer have a great name and reputation, and the Audi A6 looks tremendously charismatic and stylish in the metal - Lexus must work harder on the 5GS styling next generation...

New Lexus owner here...4GS F-sport

I've owned BMW, Audi, Merc., Saab, and everything else in the past (and currently own a Porsche 911).
My impression is that the current 4GS in the U.S. may turn out to be a niche car that falls between the cracks.... a little too sporty a ride for those who want ultimate cush/luxury car, while the F-Sport versions will lose out to Merc and BMW purely for prestige factor/German nameplate....
However, I think that the current GS350 F-Sport is special, one of the great cars of our time. Everyone who's tested this car knows it, including Magazine reviewers who've claimed that the A6 or the 535i comes out slightly ahead, but "admit" that the GS350 F-sport is the one they get excited about the most and want to drive at the end of the day.
One might complain about the weaker low-end torque of our 306hp V6 engine vs the BMW turbo engines, for example, but this is one AMAZING engine.... almost unbelievable when you put in manual paddle-shift mode and let it open up at the higher rpm's.
The F-Sport is a DRIVER'S car-- like the E46 3-series, E39 and E60 5-series, 4th Gen. Subaru Legacy GT, Saab 9000 Aero, etc. --even though it may never have mass appeal.
