Anywho, if Lexus can stay around 2k units a month they will be extremely happy as the goal is 24k a year. GS 450h sales are predicted to be 10% of sales so I wouldn't expect a huge jump in May, its a low volume car and even with gas prices rising I don't see a huge demand for a 55k-65k car even if it gets 31MPG.

If Lexus offered a GS coupe and an entry level GS 300h or something I don't see why they couldn't hit 3k a month in sales.
Lexus March 2012 Sales Report

"The new GS continues to exceed our expectations. We sold 2,558 units in March…and dealers are turning them at a blistering rate. In fact, as of last week, GS had already exceeded its total 2011 sales."
"With another 2,500 units sold, the GS is off to a stellar start — and that’s without the flagship GS 450h, which arrives to dealrships in April."
So far so good.

On pace for around 30k a year (12 month period) instead of 24k...this is GS 350 only...450h is expected to be 10% of sales

I've seen a few around, I think Lexus nailed with the GS and the advertising campaign was very effective.

Among the Top 10 fasting selling cars in America. And the only luxury sport sedan in the list. The others are SUVs, economy cars and non-performance hybrids.

The Fastest Selling Cars In America

10. Lexus GS 350

Days To Turn: 15

The Lexus GS is all new for the 2013 model year and went on sale in February.

After years of being known as just the most reliable luxury car brand in America, the GS is the company's stake in the ground to launch a new era. Reviewers have been nearly unanimous in praising the more gutsy driving experience of the GS, compared with virtually every Lexus that has preceded it.

The interior seems to have benchmarked BMW, but seems to have done the Bavarian one better. There is a hybrid version of the GS in addition to the V6 trim levels.

Sold 2,006 units in April, so the sales rate is cooling off when I had thought it would continue to increase on a month to month basis. I guess with the initial rebate programs ending it is inevitable. The annual increase is is actually greater than last month at 486%! Is Lexus still advertising heavily on TV?

the year to year is pointless because the 3gs wasn't selling any at all already. i am still seeing commercials on the new gs on tv. the key is in the coming months when the new es is hitting, interesting to see how lexus handles few cars together.

i knew about the slower sales in april on the gs before this already. but i think it's still too early to tell if this is a trend. it's just one month. i think another 3 months and we will see. for sure 4gs supply is getting higher and more cars are at the dealership. i am seeing a pretty tight race between the brands, exciting

I think the key to maintaining sales momentum down the years is constant moderate updates, a mid-cycle refresh/facelift and additional engine choices.A GS300h and a V8 would be a good place to start.

Could very well be an inventory issue since the GS is one of the fastest selling cars in America. My dealer hardly has any. There seems to be more people ordering looking at this forum and F-sports are in high demand and Lexus may need to adjust their build Mix. 2,000 is right on their sales target.

In comparison, the Infiniiti M35h/37/56 plummeted nearly 50% last month to around 450 units. It has been another sales disaster for the company. The car is barely 2 years old

I don't think it is a flop but it appears the inventory now exceeds the demand and dealers can not longer work off a few dollars off of MSRP. Now it is a few dollars over invoice.

Does anyone have the sales numbers on the 3gs when it launched in 2005-2006?

I'm curious how the numbers compare

Too early to call a flop but I don't believe it's selling well either. I should have seen more than 2 by now. In south Florida. But it's still early and the style will grow on a few people.

It's also possible that just like the 3GS, a few changes from year to year may make it more attractive. Lexus may have to make some tweaks to get people to buy it.

Some of the tuners might make a body kit that takes it to another level...making it more attractive. It's just too early to call.

if anything what you say should help the sales number. keep in mind, it's number of units sold

here's another way to recap the 3gs

gs300/350 gs430/450h
feb 1602 345
mar 2482 727
apr 2657 541
may 2503 638
jun 2701 616
jul 2785 589
aug 2811 524
sep 2357 382
oct 2279 366
nov 2223 396
dec 2973 458
jan 1699 279
feb 1771 278
mar - -
apr 1963 373
may 1940 516
jun 1771 420
jul 1776 299
aug 2609 362
sep 2485 221
oct 1793 204
nov 1664 196

the way i see it, the first decline didn't happen really until jan 06, which was about 11 months after 3gs debut, with a sharp decline (dec 05 was very high with december to remember, but even compared to nov 05 it's sharp drop of over 20%)

numbers picked up a little with the introduction of the gs450h in march 06 time frame, but the hybrid hype couldn't hold for long. then the gs350 came out later in the year and that boosted up the sales again, unfortunately fell back quickly after 2 months

Main reason is that Lexus capped production at 2,000 per month for the 4GS versus 3,000 per month for 3GS when it first came out. Since demand is higher than production, Lexus need to ramp up the production to meet demand. My local dealer in midwest has only 2 GS in inventory with more than 10 on waiting list.
