Tell your dealer to give you a loaner vehicle.

Whenever I sign a contract for a car, I always give them a deadline to deliver the car (if its not at the dealer) giving me the right to cancel after that date. It gives them the incentive not to screw around with me.

I'm in a similar situation. My dealer called me and said that my car is at the port and processing date is today. So the car should be delivered to the dealership in a 7-10 day time frame from the processing date.

Ask your dealer for the processing date of the car. The processing date is where the people at the port check for damages, install some minor things and allocate cars accordingly to trucks for delivery from what the dealer told me. Estimated time frame for dealer delivery is up to 10 days from the processing date. Can someone verify this?

For the vehicles to get from the LA Port to dealerships in Texas it takes about 7-10 days. I've seen cars sit at the port for 2 weeks for no reason though.

To the poster that sold your cars- just ask for a loaner vehicle until your new vehicle arrives. It's pretty common practice!

No contract signed, just a $1000.00 "refundable" deposit!

Speak to the sales manager, tell him/her that you will cancel the contract unless he gives you a loaner car.

Hrm, lease vs cash deal. Different deal!

e.g. no "acquisition" fee in an all cash deal!

This sounds like a good deal. Was this cash, finance, or lease?

Come on Faifai, its time to relinquish the throne!

The sales price was less than invoice. Give credit where credit is due! Let the next generation take the challange!

I thought i was going to have to drive the 2.5 hours to CT tomorrow to sell it, which i was dreading. Then a kid calls me from my Cars.com ad and tells me he wants to buy it for $1000 more that Carmax, cash! He kicked the tires, drove around for 10 mins, and we went to the bank to deposit $24K, just like that.

Walked over to dealer with my wife and picked her up yesterday. $56,482 MSRP, paid $52,763.

Here is the breakdown on paper:
Capitalized Cost Reduction - 1932.96
First Month Payment - 597.99
Refundable Security Deposit N/A
Title Fees N/A (told them flat out I wasnt paying this)
Registration Fees$10
License Fes N/A
Tax on Cap Cost Reduction 171.55
Acquisition fee - 700
Process Fee/12.50 NEW YORK STATE TIRE FEE 87.50
STATE TAX N/A
Total 3500 (Minus $1,000 performance event credit = $2,500 out the door)

The breakout on the amount due may seem weird, but I basically told them I had an offer at 580 per month, with $3500 down (which i did, from a Jersey dealer). I showed them the paper, they had a similar car on site (with the remote start, a little extra). They tried to get me to pay 630 or something. I told them i was not paying more than $590 p/m and not coming out of pocket more than 3500. That was it. They met me at $599 to get the deal done and I dropped my deposit.

I think it was a matter of them wanting to move it, and me having other offers to scare them with. Store manager half jokingly told me I stole a car from him, legally. I had to stick to my guns but got it done. If you have a credit/rebate don't mention it until deal is made.

Thanks to all on this forum for your insight, education and enthusiasm.

Lex
Nice! So Invoice + ~$250!?

Went to the dealer to buy a new GS and a new RX.

The salesman wanted msrp for both. We told him if he can knock a few thousand off both, we were ready to buy. He replied, Cant do it.. so we left.
