You can take the risk if you would like. Others like knowing they have an extended warranty in the event something breaks down.

If a component breaks down and is a costly fix, simply detail the car and post it on Craigslist as a car in EXCELLENT, LIKE NEW condition!

To second what varcity64 said, that is a higher price than what you can get.
For my previous Lexus ES, I had purchased the extended warranty (Lexus backed platinum coverage with $0 deductible) from Troy - about $1200 for 7 year 100k miles. Paid for itself last year.

I intend to purchase the extended warranty for my GS too (Just before the factory warranty expires of course - no point in blocking my money away right now) - though I may go to a different dealer this time

These are the quotes I got from another dealership (Troy was a little more expensive this time) - again, Lexus backed $0 deductible platinum coverage.
6 YEAR 70,000 MILES $830.00,
7 YEARS 75,000 MILES $1,255.00,
8 YEAR 75,000 MILES $1,415.00
<other age/mileage combinations available>

If you want, I believe you can return your warranty to the dealership (and get full amount back) - and then purchase the warranty from Troy or other reputable resellers.

If you have your car serviced at a Lexus dealership, and they discover the component that broke down, you can be sure that they update their records with that information. Anyone purchasing that car can request Lexus to perform an inspection on the car (for a fee of course) and Lexus will be glad to point that out in their inspection.

Sounds like a good price. Can you tell us what dealer is offering these prices? Thanks,

Florida Insurance Commission kills us here... We can't buy some of these great priced warranties from dealers out of state to save $. Stuck with the in state dealer to get them

Faifai, you fail to realize that some regions it is impossible to currently get a car at invoice. It appears Texas is one on them. You need to encourage, not discourage. Some have posted there is a common ownership of some dealers in Texas. With that said, it appears to be a good deal for Texas. He may be able to get a few more dollars off if he waits to the end of the month but risks a change in the inventory.

Have you gotten quotes from other dealers or are they all owned by the same company?

For Dallas (not sure you're shopping in Dallas), that's pretty good. I don't know anyone in the metroplex that has posted a purchase price better than $2,500 off MSRP.
