I was testing a 2013 GS350 Premium with the transmission in the Sport mode. As I got onto the expressway and floored it to about 75 then let up I noticed that the transmission stayed in the lower gear and did not upshift for about 30-sec to 1 minute until I hit the throttle a few times. Is this a function of the Sport mode where the trans stays in the lower gears even after you let off of the gas?

I think they need to update the software. That's one thing I don't like about the 4GS is if I let off the gas too quickly it chokes up and doesn't up shift fast enough.
I dont believe lexus when they say the 6 speed was the perfect match while the 8 speed wasn't.

this is of course proper behaviour as when you are driving hard you dont want your transmission automatically shift and upset the balance of the car in the corners.

you know when you are in drive, let say for instance you want to pass someone up. you keep it in D, but you just down shift from the paddle to pass the car and it'll engage in the lower gear for about 30sec an jump back into d mode. that is something i like bc i don't need to press on the gas harder for the automatic to down shift for you when u can do it at a fingers touch.

in Sports mode, it acts like a manual, stays in gear unless you go to the rev limiter... in normal mode, gear selection is like previously in Lexus, where it is actually top gear limiter, but it will upshift/downshift.

i like it this way, when it stay in gear longer it gives a more manual feel. it is like ur going around a corner and theres another corner a short distance ahead, itll stay in the gear. it is one of the thing they changed it to because people used to complain that they couldnt stay in a lower gear around turns without you losing power from the transmission upshifting for u in sports mode. this is what i believe i read somewhere but dont hold it against me..hahah

When using paddle shifters, D5 = 5th gear maximum and D4 = 4th gear maximum
When using the manual mode, M5 = 5th gear only and M4 = 4th gear only.
Shifts are faster in manual mode than via paddle shifters
