Like most of you, when I go to buy a car I know more about it than the salesperson knows
"the engine sound being piped in through the sound system" eeh? It's not... you are confusing Lexus with BMW who does that on some of thier current cars... Lexus has a tube off of the intake tract pointed at the air inlet vent for the cabin... Real engine sounds vereses a recording like the BMW's....

The "Sound Creator" exit tube just points to the back firewall...

Caddy, I think your auto button light may need to be looked at by the dealer.
OR...

It may have not been ON or enabled to begin with....

Sounds like Caddy has it ON now....

You can only expect the salesperson to explain so much to you. By the time most people get to the delivery process they are braindead from the overall draining effects attributed to the car buying process. If you have a question, the answer is always within arms reach (aka the glove compartment).
so basically someone turned off rain sensing and speed sensing and put it in simple intermittent mode, as in Corolla for instance (for older folks)... and to put it back requires longer press of auto button.

even when not in auto mode, wipers behave differently depending on your speed, hence the need of longer press (ie if service advisor turned it off for you and then so you cant turn it on by mistake).
