Is the 4th Generation GS better than the 3rd?
#17
4GS beats 3GS in a lot categories.................except for the current lack of a V8 engine in the 4th gen GS (and no, 4th gen GS450h is not a replacement for 3GS GS460)
For me, it would be something like this:
4th gen GS (GS250/GS350) > 3rd gen GS (GS300/GS350)
But:
3rd gen GS460 > 4th GS450h
That 1UR-FE engine is so thrilling and the low-end torque of the V8. For me, the 4.6 liter engine was the thing that improved my perception of the 3rd gen GS.
Anyways
I do hope Lexus is working on a GS-F cause that's probably the only way that we might see a V8 engine for the 4th gen GS line.

The 4th Gen GS has wood steering wheels for all the available packages except F Sport. The 450h has the really nice bamboo.
I do the other side of the coin.
4GS doesn't look better inside to me. Doesn't feel better either.
4GS doesn't look better outside to me.
4GS handles better stock vs stock but modded 3GS vs stock 4GS is not much difference. I suspect the sport steering wheel provides a lot of what people are feeling. It provides good grip where as the 3GS feels like it's slipping and that doesn't provide confidence. Even though the 4GS steering wheel makes the car feel so much better, I prefer the luxury feel of that wood in the 3GS. So much that if I bought a 4GS that steering wheel would have to be changed.
Maybe cause you have a 3gs no?

Yes, the old 3GS had the exterior and interior styling, and the old 3GS engine is quieter under acceleration, and perhaps the old conventional analog turn indicators are easier to use.
However the new 4GS triumphs in just about every other way including:
cabin space,
trunk space,
a few extra hp,
automatic electric parking brakes,
smaller and thicker steering wheel,
much sharper steering,
longer suspension travel for more comfortable ride,
sports suspension option,
quieter on cruising,
more rigid body structure [fewer creaks and rattles],
head up display,
blind spot lane change indicator,
much more powerful hi fi system,
rear climate and hi-fi controls,
motorised rear window sun shades.
They should make a 4GS variant - with a low and swoopy "four door coupe" body style, just like the old 3GS.
This would give a direct competitor to the Benz CLS, BM 6 Series, and Audi A7 Sportsback.
The old 3GS is more of a similar design to these alternative European sports models.
A low and swoopy four door coupe is much more practical than a conventional two door coupe...

Dude I really like the look of your car! Looks really nice. I also like those Vossens better than the other Vossens you had on it.

i've driven TONS of 3GS and 4GS and i think the 4GS is better in all categories except that it doesnt have a V8 configuration, thats the only draw back. But interior and exterior styling is much better. The new car is sooo much more technical. The new nav system is pretty neat with the enform app and all that other noise. The 3GS nav and center console looks so old now to me IMO. Either way they are great cars!
