Had to happen. Two small rock chips on my hood. Will head to my dealer tomorrow to purchase the touch up paint for my color but thought I'd check here before doing so... Do body shops have a new way I may not be aware of to fix chips, aside from repainting the whole part of course? Would like the repair to be as seamless as possible. I got a 2013 Nebula Pearl Grey GS.

Sorry to here about your stone chip, I have the same colour and waiting for my first stone chip on the bumper
I don’t know about other countries but here in the UK “ smart repair” companies wont touch jobs involving stone chips in the centre a full panels, they say that even with all there equipment and expertise they cant get a perfect match, and somewhere in the middle of a large panel it would show up like a saw thumb.

I believe some of the do-it-yourself touch up kits now come with both paint and clear coat, so after you apply the paint and let it dry you can apply the clear coat to protect it and smooth it out.

get the touch up paint from the dealer and do it urself, the paint comes as a brush at one end and like a pen on the other, and u can put the clear coat afterwards , it's very easy,i did it on mine .

ever ponder a clear bra for your car?
rock chips are bound to happen, i recently got a huge one on my grill
which unlike on the hood or bumper, etc. is not fixable.
get a clear bra , its a lot more expensive but you dont have to worry about touching up every little rock chip

Thanks all. I know the clear bra would be the way to go but I just am not crazy about the look no matter how subtle it is. Just like my cars pure. And so I made the decision at purchase to deal with touch ups. Just wanted to check with you all if there was a new, professional option other than the touch up pen. I guess the answer is no? Thanks.

Does the clear coat actually fill in the hole left by the chip? Also, where do you get clear coat? Is there a specific recommend brand? Thanks.

I already bought this. Do I also need a clear coat? Thanks,

It's not free as you are charging me $17 for shipping. That is exactly what I just paid on Sewell's site for genuine Lexus touch up paint including shipping.
Or you can try www.genicolor.com, coupon section "yellow tab" and enter : free2012pen669 Thanks

Ok. Got the pen and fixed the two chips. Was careful to not put too much paint or clear coat. Done that before and resulted in a nasty mole on a previous car and showed. Really pleased with how these turned out. Barely noticeable. I might even rub it with some Mother's Scratch Remover when it's really dry to make it disappear some more. Take a look at the pics. Tough to photograph a shiny car at night in a garage. So my reco to all, get the pen but practice on a piece of cardboard before and go easy on the quantity.

I can barely see it even now! lol!
Was this done using the touch up that Lexus dealers sell? (like the one that LexusGSFGO posted the link to - http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2013/5219.html ?)

In your case shipping was 10.78 and not 17 ! Your pen was free. And by the way, Lexus and Toyota dealerships sell and use our products. What is genuine for you they don't make touch up paint pens, Toyota and Lexus Canada don't have only one touch up pen provider.
