I don't think you can close the trunk from the dashboard. Only with the closing button on the trunk.

On my previous 3GS have the soft close power trunk. When you close down the trunk it will shut it close completely. I just don't get why Lexus engineers leave this feature out on the 4GS.

I once open the trunk liner for install the rear lip spoiler and found all the wire connector pre-wire. Must be for power trunk motor/switch.

Time will tell, but someone could try by order parts from Canada and put it on US 4GS.

It's not a defect. It's actually for safety reasons- you might accidentally close the lid on someone/something if you can't see back there. You can see where the back door closes in the RX using the rearview mirror but you can't in the GS/LS/etc due to the 3-box design.

I couldn't auto close the trunk from the driver's seat in my LS or BMW 7 either.

I can close the trunk from the driver's seat in my MB S550. Very handy.

No need to go to your dealer; it is not a customizable setting. You can not close the trunk lid with the button on the dash. Sorry.

My old W220 S500 only had the soft-close trunk so I wasn't aware of that. Interesting. Not sure about how safe that is though, the anti-pinch function only works when you really apply upward pressure on the trunk lid in my experience- a child's hand could easily be crushed for a few seconds before the lid detects an object in the way.

1. Inside button only OPENS trunk

2. No auto-close option on U.S. GS-350

3. Yes, very hard to close manually -- must SLAM (disappointing because my "old" GS-460 had the soft-close feature). Makes me feel like I'm back in the 1990s.

Lexus & Toyota trend to aim their products with outdated techs and hold-back on some cheap basic components for next year version. Unless you go all the way to buy their Limited or Ultra luxury package. In this case, the next gen LS.

Can't you rewire it somehow? A good electrician would know something like that. Maybe you would need extra switch as well.

Any newer info on getting the auto closer mechanism for the US version of the 4GS?

Any LEXUS techs out there?

I don't expect a dealer to do it, but if you can get the parts...
