Question Auto Wipers???

Who here leaves them on all the time? I don't, but got to thinking about it and can't think of any good reason not to. It's just like leaving the Park Assist on all the time, which I do.

Can anyone think of a downside...besides occasionally needing to turn them off for a car wash or something?

Thanks!

on both my 3gs350 and ls460l, i had them off all the time unless necessary. problem is depends on your drive, sometimes the sun glare and if your windshield is not clean enough, it can treat it as "raining" and then your wipers will come on. then your windshield gets really ugly.

yes, happened to BOTH cars so i turned it off. pissed

Sorry but I don’t know anything about the weather in Vermont, but the only disadvantage I can think of is that I wouldn’t want the wipers coming on if my wipers were stuck to the windscreen due to icy or snowy weather.

I leave them on in my cars. Every once and a while you will hit a weird light angle or something and they'll come on like rominl said, but its pretty rare.

That's a good point, I suppose if I got used to leaving them on all the time, then I could run into a situation where they got frozen to the windshield and tried to come on. Guess I shall leave them off and only turn on when needed.

Thanks everyone!

It is monsoon season in southern Arizona. Last week, I drove to Phoenix and back through intermittent rain and thunderstorms. I was really very impressed with how the automatic wipers functioned, turning on with any significant rain and turning off as soon as it stopped.

I leave them off unless raining or drizzling. I noticed on my car that if off and turned on they will make a pass whether raining or not.

I leave it on all the time, however, there was once I got bombarded by a sea gull, thank goodness, it did not trigger the auto wipers, otherwise...
yes, and you have to remind yourself to turn it off if you are entering auto car wash...

I don't drive my car much but I leave everything in auto, I'm lazy I paid a lot for the car and I want it to do its job when I drive. Lol

AWD has heated windshield to keep that from happening.

That’s handy; we don’t get that here in the UK
Does the heater come on automatically when the temperature drops to a certain level. or do you manually have to turn the heater on?, if so surely as soon as you turn the car on the wipers in auto mode would try and move before the heater has had a chance to heat the windscreen sufficiently to free the wipers?.

If you have the cold weather pkg in the US you can put it on windshield wiper deicer and let it melt any ice around the wiper blades before turning them on. Did not know AWD had this pkg standard but the 450h does have it as standard equipment.
