Thumbs down iOS 6 - messages ability gone

Just put the GA release on my iPhone. It appears Apple pulled the messages ability that was in the betas out of the release.

I have the developer GA build which was a clean install. I will try the public release tonight and let you know. I'm guessing they pulled it though.

Apple does show Bluetooth MAP support in their release notes. Hopefully I can find the fix tonight.

I just upgraded to IOS 6 and MAP is no longer greyed out (in settings, Bluetooth, Details), but the Message button on the phone window is still inactive. I am still not receiving texts.

Is there some setting on the phone or the car that I am missing?

The GM (golden master, not GA) build is the same as public release.

Yep, good call. I put the wrong letter. Thanks for pointing that out.

On another note, I have restored to the public release just to check. Same issue. Messages are not coming through any more.

Are you using a passcode lock? If so, unlock the phone and reestablish the Bluetooth connection. If you're not using a passcode, or autolock didnt kick in, then I'll have to dig into this a little more.

I have been using the messages during the beta cycle with both a passcode and auto lock with no issues. I will remove my phone and re-add it just to test.

I am, but my friend was sitting right next to me and I asked that he send me a text while the phone was not locked. I tired this several times, and re-paired the phone twice, just to make sure.

Obviously the function is not totally gone, because the Lexus display indicates that MAP is active. But, it still could be that Apple removed it at the last minute and neglected to remove all associated code, such as the code that tells other devices what it's capable of. Just a theory.

I'm hoping if this is the case, it's due to a need for additional bug fixes, and if so, an update should be forthcoming.

If on the other hand, Apple in its infinite wisdom decided we don't need this, or not to support this function in favor of it's own SIRI integration, than I will be quite annoyed to say the least.

Turn "Notifications" on in the phone. We have tested and can confirm it works.

Good News! It does work. For some inexplicable reason, when I started my car to go home it suddenly started working. The message button on the phone is now active and I was able to receive text messages. Maybe it's just buggy and may not work tomorrow. Who knows, but I'll report back. The reply function does not work, as it displays an error while trying to send. I believe this was reported previously with the beta version of the OS.
