i've noticed that the engine in the GS350 is the same as the engine that has been used in the IS350 for over 6 years now, albeit more efficient.

is there a chance that Lexus will drop the 3.5 V6 within the next few years for possibly an even more efficient, force-fed motor?

reason i ask is because I would hate to get a 2014 model to find out that a faster and more efficient motor is coming out the next year.

Or do you guys think they are going to stick to this motor for this gen?

thanks!
i would guess wait for 2014 GS.. BUT then you could wait for 2015 GS which may be the facelift... or wait for 2016 when new engines come...or 2018 for all new model.............................. and it goes on and on and on :-).

So you could wait forever for something new... i would tell you to wait for 2014 models as new IS is coming as well but you wont be wrong to buy car right now and enjoy it without all that wait... there is always something new around the corner.... 2GR-FSE is great engine!

The good news is it's coming most likely for the MY14 model. I posted earlier today that the 3IS 350 RWD will come exclusively with an 8-speed auto. 250 models soldier on with an updated 6-speed auto found in the 4GS
I'm backing Hoovey since our info is the same. All GS talk I've gotten is GS F and coupe based car. When I ask about new engines I get the look so I don't expect updates.

The fact of the matter is the 3.5 V-6 is still providing the GS among best MPG, performance, emissions and is a rock solid engine. If you want to chase hp numbers, get an Infiniti m37 with 333hp or so which is no faster and handles worse.

On the engine front Audi right now is really impressing me in the luxury realm and they have gone smaller displacement with forced induction.

The other thing that makes me laugh is if you wait and get the new engine, then the internet says "I will never buy first year cause of issues". So then wait what, 2-3 years. Then the new GS Is out

Buy new, enjoy now, be happy.

Whats hilarious about this is this forum and most others swept this result under the rug and didn't talk about it much. They loved talking about the GS when it wasn't sporty or doing so hot in reviews. Now its arguably best in class and these fake "enthusiasts' have shut the hell up.

Maybe the funniest is the Infiniti guys who came out of the wood work when the last genenration M came out. All of the sudden the GS got slammed by a vehicle that changed names, doors etc over a 20 year period. One generation later and its back to a flop.

Hilarious.

I agree. If you choose to wait for the next possibility, you'll never pull the trigger.

Just like buying a laptop. If you wait then you'll wait for ever.

Some engines are classics - like the UZ series (3UZ-FE my favorite) and the 2GR-FSE. The 2GR-FSE being on Wards Automotive 10-best list for four straight years. It still out performs many engines with higher published numbers (mainly because it's torques curve of the D-4S dual injection system). This engine is still ahead of it's time when compared to many other current engines. Not to mention it's virtually bullet-proof. It's certainly better than BMW's N54-55 (especially where reliability is concerned) and Infiniti's VQ37VHR which still seems crude compared to the Lexus engine. Audi's new 3.0 supercharged engine is proving itself to be a powerful and efficient engine (reliability is yet to be seen).
If Toyota is planning to change this engine it had better be better than good. My concern is that I am seeing quite a bit of cost cutting going on and I'm afraid the new engine won't be the engineering tour-de-force the 2GR-FSE was (is).
Personally, I am perfectly happy with this engine. It sure doesn't leave me wanting for more power, and it actually "feels" more powerful than cars with higher HP ratings. That's what's important to me.
Here is a great article on the engine:

if there is a power increase in the 2FR-FSE it will appear in the IS first, like how the IS was the first car to get the 350 engine in 06 then in 07 the GS got the 350 engine.
