390 miles and a check engine light?!?

I'm confused. How did you "tighten" it? There are very clear instructions on the gas cap. Remove it, and put it back on according to the instructions. The light will turn off after a little while (it does not take 40 times). I know this because it happened to us on my wife's GS after she got her first tank of gas.
I have since driven it around town, unsure if it has been 40 miles yet, but the light is definitely still on.

Okay. My advice is to go outside, take the cap off, and turn it until you hear one click as it says on the gas cap. This is important or you will get a check engine light.
Well I didn't tighten it like you would the lid of a jar. Also, I have never read the instructions on any gas cap... I wonder if I should be ashamed to admit that. What I meant was, when I checked the gas cap, it moved counter clock wise to the open position much too easily. There was no tension, and that is why I said it was loose. By tightening, I meant I twisted clock wise until that click thing it does happened, and then a second time for good measure.
I have since driven it around town, unsure if it has been 40 miles yet, but the light is definitely still on.

Is this your first car? Its really simple! Do the following!
1. Check Gas Cap
2. Make sure you have 91+ rated gas
3. Drive it around
4. If light is still on visit the dealer!
End of story!

Light is still on so the dealer and I have a date on Monday to either reset it or realize there is something else amiss.
