Can you not run different size tires front and back regardless on 19x9 or am I missing something?
You can but I'll bet he wanted a bit more width in the rear than a 19x9 could provide. I'm running 275 on the rears of my 19x9 (245 up front) and while they fit fine and the overall width is good, I wouldn't mind more of a slight stretch sidewall profile from a 9.5 or 10" wheel to hone in the fitment.

Ah, I see. I saw someone running 295's rear on F Sport 9" rims, it looked okay and I assume it helps with preventing curb rash with the wheel tucked in a bit more.

Wow that seems excessive and borderline dangerous. I wouldn't want to run 295 on anything less than 10".
275s give more than enough curb protection although I feel that a flat or slight bulge profile fits better on an American muscle car or high luxury Rolls/Bentley whereas a slight stretch fits a European or Japanese luxury car better.

Let you guys in on a secret. Both Rims and Tires vary some in width. Even thought there are standard measurements for size. Especially tires from manufacture to manufacture listed as the same size still vary.

Its not much of a secret, the tread width measurements are available on Tire Rack so that you can easily see which tire has a more aggressive shoulder block. I've used a Porsche spec Michelin PSS that was a 255 that was as wide as the standard 285 pss. The section width however should always be the same for stated numerical section width and the measurements on Tire Rack reflect that. That's the width that will adhere to the rim and that should be within a recommended spec. Now that I'm jogging my memory, I do remember on the SRT forums, in a past vehicle life, that some have mounted 315s on a 9" wheel. That was an ugly sight and probably felt even worse on the road. I've never seen a rim vary though, a 9" rim should be 9" but I have only used OEM wheels so I guess anything is possible with aftermarket stuff.
Do you think maybe I'm not driving my Lexus enough?
Ok with gas prices and everything, yeah I can kinda understand. As long as once in awhile you get in, at least make rev and screeching noises.... if you still have a stupid smile on your face I'd say that counts.
