Default dislike not trying to flare anything.

is anyone a little upset about the gs horsepower? knowing what some pay for the vehicle and seeing other cars.on the road with hp up an around 500hp do you guys think lexus slacked a little on our gs. I mean a 98-05 gs.have 300hp an they werent even able to add another 100+hp? in my opinion yea the newer gs.have amazing technology an look better but power wise not.to much different in all the years....

I mean...the thing goes like a bat out of hell...horsepower numbers for the sake of horsepower numbers don't do much for me.

The GS350 competes with the BMW 535i, Mercedes E350, Audi A6 3.0T, Infiniti M37. ALL of which have similar hp and similar pricing.

The difference is the better handling and refinement of the GS.

The GS is already ahead of the segment it is in ( midsize luxury sedan).

500hp in the midsize luxury segment is definitely much more costly than what the GS and its direct competitors are selling for. That's M5,RS6,E63 AMG territory....

Why would you expect a car priced like the GS350 to offer the same performance as an M5 that is so much more expensive?

I think the new gs is just a genine pig for the new is and other cars coming out. the new is going to have the viable suspension.

my AWD F Sport is almost 4000 lbs. however when you get in and drive you could never tell that car weighs almost 2 tons. it's not a sluggish car... far from it, and it does have AVS.

you can't put a caddie in the same garage as a 2013 GS. i've driven the new ATS and XTS and they don't hold a candle to the GS. i'm not posting this because i own an F Sport GS... it's just a much better car IMO.

Funny thing is, I actually went to Cadillac about a week ago in search of a CTS-V for my fiance`. After finding a white/black sedan that looked good, I sat down and was about to figure out some numbers when the sales guy walked over to the sales manager for some base figures. So I took that opportunity to look at the coupe they had in the showroom, and as an American I was disappointed in the interior quality and craftsmanship. Everything is plastic (like cheap Solo-Cup plastic), and it just felt like they built a car for it's drivetrain. I do agree the GS or at least the F sport models should have some engine enhancements. But your argument about a $5k 98 GS is invalid, because at one point that car was $40-$50K when new, and now it's almost 15 years old.

I think the GS 350 would benefit for additional low-end torque. That could be achieved with larger displacement or forced induction. I don't consider the GS 450h a true replacement for a V8 model.

i agree... it could use more low end torque, and forced induction would be nice.

Agree,Lexus needs a V8, non-hybrid.
I had a GS 430 and still got 19 mpg.
Loved the extra kick. Makes no sense
not to have it now. What/ where is the Lexus
email/suggestion box? :-))

I'm fine with the performance even after coming off a 2008 IS-F. The GS isn't a race car by any stretch of the imagination and, I suspect, wasn't intended for the performance-oriented demographic.

You're talking as if horsepower is the only factor thats important in the purchase of a $60,000 midsized luxury sedan.

Its not. If thats all you care about, $60k can buy you a whole lot more horsepower than anything available in this segment. You might be able to buy a 98 GS with "similar" horsepower for $5k but you still have an old, outdated, worn out car with no modern technology or features or style.

I don't want that, I'm a grown man and my self worth or enjoyment of a car doesn't hinge on some horsepower number.

If the car were really underpowered or something that would be one thing, but its hard to make a case that a 4,000 AWD luxury sedan that accelerates 0-60 in 5.5 seconds is underpowered.
