When I got my GS on Memorial Day, could not find touch up paint anywhere. Sewell had it on back order and local dealer did not even had an order code. Apparently Toyata/Lexus had not used the color in a while. Last time it was used was in 2006, on a Scion called Sonic Gray. Eventually had a paint shop make it up, and now touch up paint is more readily available at the dealers.

Sorry: I think I got a bit off track. The touch up paint bottles the dealerships sell ARE from Lexus. The paint used at the body shops to do repairs is not ordered from Lexus-I think I got caught up with that part of it by mistake. And SW10ES: you may be right about them not having the tinting colors, or maybe they did not have a formula yet from their paint supplier to make the liquid platinum. All very possible.

I asked him about that and he said he doesn't use the dealer's touchup paint to do touchups, he had his own paint and tinting kit he used...which he didn't have what he needed either.

But what do I know, I only spray cars everyday

LOL, I'm just telling you what the guy told me. They're not going to mix up a whole batch of paint to touch up three rock chips for free, would you agree with that statement?
Nobody's doubting what you're saying.

It's an independent guy of the body shop, then yes I understand. Usually they have a guy that does touchups and has a small mixing kit. Makes sense in that case. Just alot of people very misinformed into believing there is actual Lexus paint. Lexus does not make paint, they make cars. Just like the Acura dealer tried to tell me years back that they went special to get the Acura paint for my hood that was chipped during transit.

He's the bodyshop rep at the dealership, he does the touchups, estimating, etc. I know Lexus doesn't manufacture paint, just like they don't manufacture glass, or metal.
