Default BMW 535i M Sport vs Lexus GS350 F Sport comparo in Roundel (BMW Car Club) Magazine

I was flipping through my wife's latest Roundel Magazine (which she gets as a BMWCCA member) and an article jumped out I thought I'd share. I sometimes get my pictures from her BMW club races published in the magazine so I typically will look for the "Racing Lines" section, but this time the word "LEXUS" and a pic of a 4GS surprised me as I browsed.

This article is from the January 2013 edition and is a comparison of the BMW 535i M Sport vs Lexus GS350 F Sport. Important note if you haven't picked this up from the thread title. this is a BMW magazine and clearly a BMW biased writer / reviewer so you can expect a mostly Teutonic perspective and don't be surprised at what car he'd select.

Wow...I'm impressed that the review was as positive about the GS as it was given the source...

The world and internet is going to crash then end
.....I plan to write that reviewer an email for maybe one of the best reviews I've read and for him to go out and announce the Lexus the better drivers car in a BMW magazine is mind blowing and his honesty is beyond appreciated.

Yeah and his choice of the BMW being the better everyday car vs the lighter, better handling and more fun to drive Lexus is pretty incredible. He basically said "i'd choose the BMW because this is a BMW magazine" LOL

I'm also pleased with my reviews b/c his feelings and conclusions match mine. I've stated the 5 series is a better everyday car, its bigger, drop down trunk, softer and that 50k maintenance. I think its one of the best all around cars in history and I love it in 550 trim.

The praise the GS gets for its driving experience continues, you can't hide a good product!

Also note the GS didn't have the optional "DRS"Dynamic Rear Steer which adds to the sport. The 5 did have it equipped.

Decent review! However, he forgot to mention that GS would be 10x more reliable than the 5 series. Oh well, at least he was not bashing Lexus left and right like most did and stil do!

Nice find, good review. This car has come a long way and the time and effort is well deserved and I'm enjoying it, The GS is in my book a whole lot better in handling compared to my old GS and from driving some BMW's is right there with them.

Who would have ever thought that the GS would make it into a BMW review? Anyway, the fact that the GS is "sedate" in everyday driving but handles slightly better than the 5 Series when you want some fun would indicate that Lexus has nailed it and is one of the many reasons I'm glad to be a GS owner. Also, no mention of the turbo lag in the 5, but at least he mentioned the whacked-out shifter.

My g/f keeps reminding me that my '01 330Ci was her favorite car that I've ever owned, and I keep telling her that BMW no longer makes them like that. Somehow I doubt that she cares since she always hangs onto the Oh S**" handle in the GS when she rides with me.

Yeah what is with them and that shifter?! never understood that. First time I drove one with it the thing i was rolling out of the parking lot while I was figuring out how to put it in drive.

Some things like the smaller nav is preferred, and that the fact that shifting the drive select left for eco and not sport/sport+ toggle were humorous to me.

Agreed. Being reviewed against the 5 on a BMW magazine already means so much. I dont quite see why BMW would do such thing, reviewing their well known sedan against a car that most of its owners would view as a Toyota. It feels as if Lexus did a comparison of the GS against the Genesis. I think the review just made the GS look better and its owners more proud

So true. And we have a car that drives better than a BMW and is more reliable? Aside from the BMW cache, no brainer.
