Default Trunk light replacement Polarg LED comparison

I installed two different Polarg LED bulbs, the P2332W and P2831W, in my trunk light for comparative purposes. The P2332W is also sold as known as the J-62. Both of these bulbs have a color temperature of 6000K. They both significantly exceed the light output of the OEM incandescent bulb. Both of the following pictures were taken using the same fixed exposure which was adjusted to most closely match the look of the light in the real world.

Clearly, the P2831W is brighter. Its light distribution is slightly better as well. Here are the two bulbs shown together. The P2332W is on the left, the P2831W is on the right.

Nice choice!

Do you have a DIY photo for how to replace trunk light? Thanks!

It's a simple job. Apply slight pressure on the forward and rearward edge of the lamp's lens and it should fall away from the lamp. It doesn't require a lot of force, just work the plastic lens if it's stuck. Once the lens is removed the bulb is exposed. The bulb has a wedge-style base; removing it requires a light pull.

What other comparitive data is easily obtained for led's, besides color temperature? Energy consumption, for example? Is there a metric that tells you how much light it provides over a wide area?

I purchased the Polarg P2831W from an eBay vendor. That is the model I recommend. Either LED bulb is better than the stock bulb, however.

Aren't the Polargs some ridiculous price like $20 a pop? I just go down to the local AutoZone and get the Sylvanias. They had a special on a while back and were selling them at 2 for $12 or something like that. Light coverage is fine; I don't need to read in my trunk.

Here you go:

Amazon.com: Sylvania 168/194/2825 Premium White LEDriving Bulb: Automotive Amazon.com: Sylvania 168/194/2825 Premium White LEDriving Bulb: Automotive

Autozone have it in the store for $10 a pop. Will fit all the mirror puddle lights, vanity, trunk. Will dim like filament bulb.

Polarg's Japanese website contains a fair amount of information on their replacement bulbs:

http://www.nissei-polarg.co.jp/product/car.html

The important aspects of an LED replacement bulb would be its color temperature, beam pattern, lumens, and wattage. Cooling is another overlooked aspect. Higher powered LED units produce a lot of heat. Overheating is the primary reason LEDs fail.

Some unique properties of the Polarg LED bulbs are cooling holes and lenses which refract the light to produce a wider beam pattern. Additionally, the Polarg P2332W is produced in Japan, per its box. I do not know if the P2831W is also produced in Japan, but generally Polarg bulbs have been in the past.
