with surround on, it was a bit louder as i've noticed it's not as loud at level 45, but don't see myself going any louder.

this is w my iphone 5 connected straight via USB so no volume control on the device.

hardly listen to radio.

Wow thats mighty loud, I find even though I don't have ML the volume is usually set around 32 or 34 the most. On my 3GS I found that the ML needed to be around 30 to 32 or something would most likely blow not sure if it is any difference in the new GS. Have you tried a CD or even using Pandora to see the sound difference if the quality requires less volume.

With the iPod Touch connected via USB, my volume settings run from 25-43 depending on the programme material and my mood.

Last night I took my friend for a spin and showed off the system at 55 and it was still crystal clear (though it depends on song what method you use).

Most of the time low 30s.

ML at low 30's here with surround on. I know some have said the non-surround is a "truer" sound, but I find the bass much punchier with the surround on.

I have mine set at 10 when I leave the house, sometimes at 3am to go to work, unless next door have had a loud party and kept me up all night then I crank it up to 45 and lower the windows. Lol.

25-30 (max 35 if track is really good, or has low output). Extremely cold days volume is off to max of 5, prefer to listen in to the vehicles mechanics & make sure there's no odd sound when it's more than 20 degrees below 0. Who knows, someone might be honking their horns while sliding on ice to warn you to get out of the way.
