In this debate IMO "After Refueling" is more accurate or meaningful. All he needs is to post a picture that captures the fuel gauge and that will tell it all. Average can be reset while after refueling won't let you reset. I wouldn't call him all BS though. I have averaged around high 23s in the last few tanks. I drive Normal mode most the time with some S+, no ECO.

Can't you just drive a couple of miles and get a after refueling number?
Is so the number isn't too accurate.

There is absolutely no way he can get 26.5 MPG with 100% city driving on a tank of gas.Especially in Sport+.

Also questionable is when this pic of the gas mileage number was taken.
When was the last 94 degree day in AZ?

Phoenix Temps in Dec & Jan..
94 seems to be a record breaker but...

January Weather Average temperature: 56
Average high temperature: 67
Average low temperature: 46
Warmest ever: 86
Coldest ever: 29
Average precipitation: .91

December Weather
Average temperature: 55
Average high temperature: 66
Average low temperature: 45
Warmest ever: 84
Coldest ever: 26
Average precipitation: .88

There is absolutely no way he can get 26.3 MPG in mostly city driving on a tank of gas.Especially in Sport+.

Also questionable is when this pic of the gas mileage number was taken.

The image I posted was 327 miles into a tank of gas. See the odometer? That was the temperature in my garage in late November. The average mpg in the eight months since I bought the car is 24. I have had only one hwy trip in the car, about 200 miles.

You post yesterday and show a pic from late Nov.The pic shows 25 MPG after refueling. You say it was 26.5 using a gallons/mileage calcualtion on your own.Back in late Nov?

The MPG meter in a car usually shows a higher number than doing a fill up with a mileage/gallons calculation with a calculator not the other way around.
Add in 94 degrees in your garage in late Nov.
All this doesn't help your credibility.

If you think you're getting 26.5 in Sport+ and 100% city driving, that's great but no way that number is true.

Of course you can. Thats why I mentioned about a picture with fuel gauge like the attached one which means this is the true average for this tank that I have used. Average reading on the car can be reset anytime and it only has much value for a trip. If its reset right after refuel then it it has the same meaning.

Of course it is true. Eat your heart out and try working on your driving technique. End of discussion.

Maybe we need to define 100% city driving. It doesnt mean you can see a city from the highway.

My car averages around 19.8 with mostly city/short highway driving.

Of course it (26.5 city) is true. Eat your heart out and try working on your driving technique.

LMAO...sorry...but 26.5 truly city stop and go driving is absolutely a lie. You're saying you can beat the EPA city MPG (which is 19) by 40% simply by your "driving technique". 40%!

Remember we all have the same car, not going to get away with that.

As for eating your heart out...even if you were able to achieve that through "driving technique" I enjoy driving my car, I don't want to baby in in the way you'd need to to get any kind of better mileage. I'm very familiar with hypermiling techniques since I owned a Prius for 7 years and belonged to the Prius forums. Not interested.

I really hate to join this discussion, but I must. You have to define city driving. Bumper to bumper traffic will never get you that high of a mileage per gallon. Personally, I think that the EPA sicker overall is quite accurate. Over 2,300 miles in an AWD GS non-F sport, I averaged 23.3 miles per gallon (calculated, not from car computer) and over 2,800 miles in a GS F-sport 22.01 miles per gallon in mostly suburban and highway driving in NW Jersey. I really can't see that high miles per gallon unless you are driving flat and never in stop and go traffic.

From my experience, the car's computer isn't accurate in determining the average MPG for a tank of gas.

The computer determines the range to empty of the vehicle from the injector flow rate (constant) and pulse width in real time. So if one is hypermiling immediately before filling up, the computer will display a higher MPG at fill up. It is theoretically possible to get an artificially high number that way, so the most accurate way is still to divide miles driven by gallons used from a full tank.

MPG isn't my primary concern, but I do want to get better MPG. If I drove a Lambo, I'd still prefer getting 6 than 5, or whatever.

bnlexus, it isn't just how you drive when you're talking about S+. The suspension and steering change. You can't do that yourself, and they impact how you drive as they change the tool you're driving with. That's what I'm going for - tighter suspension and faster steering all the time.

Yeah, I could change the suspension, but I don't want to put money into this since the car can achieve what I want already, and I have a short term lease, so it's not worth it.
