I would honestly recommend them.
Value will decrease cause now it has a record on the insurance. There fore if a dealer buys it they can nolonger certified it as cpo. Even in a private I'm won't pay value price cause it been resprayed.

Does the driver get cited for leaving the scene of an accident when on private property?

This is not true. The car can be CPO as long as no more than 2 body panels have been repainted, and bumpers don't count.

Most dealers repaint the bumpers as part of the CPO prep process anyways.

Respray by dealer and a car that has been in an accident are two different thing. One isn't claimed on insurance and another is. Which mean they have to tell the next buyer that in which why it no longer qualify to be cpo.

That is not accurate. His car can absolutely still be a CPO.

He said he didn't think that it was so bad. WHAT!!! He ended up driving back and I was able to get his insurance information and got an estimate of almost $2000 to fix it.

I'm telling you guys some people these days are such *******s with no respect for anything or anyone but themselves. Those people need to just rot in hell.
Didn't think it was that bad?

Should punch him in the mouth, draw a little blood and tell him, "I didn't think I punched you that hard."

People are so idiotic sometimes. Glad to hear the knucklehead was caught. Did he get a ticket for hit and run or leaving the scene of an accident?

Yeah, well...my dear mother was killed by a negligent driver almost two years ago in a hospital parking garage (3-16-2011) because the driver was looking for a parking spot. She ran over my Mom and dragged her under her minivan for eight feet.

She wasn't charged with any anything. Not even a ticket because it was private property.

Yes,a Carfax report will cause a decrease in value.
However,a Lexus in an accident I believe can be CPO'd.Of course depending on how bad the repair is..
In the OP's case, the car can be CPO'd.

But CPO or not, the carfax will register the accident because of the insurance payout. The problem is that's all it will say. It doesn't go into details that only one body panel needed painting.

If I saw that on a carfax, I would walk away and look for another one. Or if I really wanted that particular car, I would use that as leverage for a better deal.

LOL, cars are repaired all the time. Its not 100% that it will even show up on a Carfax. Our Prius had $3,000 worth of hail damage repaired...covered by insurance, not on the Carfax. My 2010 ES was hit and the bumper was repainted, covered by insurance. Not on the Carfax.

When cars are out in the world they get damaged.

What??
I know that the police will typically not get involved for damage to cars while on private property, but injury/death is (should be) another matter.
I know that even for no-injury type scenario, though the person can't be charged under traffic code, but the person can be charged under civil code (at least in TX). How did this negligent driver get away with killing your mother (accident or not) and not get any citation?

(I'm sorry for your loss, and am not questioning whether this happened - just wondering how crazy the law is to allow something like this to happen!)
