Paint Protection Film Installation

I was told by my installer that it's actually possible to polish off minor scratches from urethane film too and that he has seen it done before.
I actually didn't use a prime on any of those shots. I just used an 18-200 on a DX body.

So instead of starting a new thread I figured I would post my question here....
How does the film hold up over time, say in 7+ years? How will the paint look from the protected surfaces vs. non protected surfaces over time? Will it yellow? I'm concerned about the long haul of it

Its guaranteed for 5 years against yellowing, longer depending on the product. You can always remove it and have it re-applied....

I had the same film on my 2007 infiniti. The paint and film both looked fine 6 years later. The car was already considered totaled so I pulled back some of the filmto see what the paint looked like.

No there will be no difference. Film has been out for 20+ years now without any issues like this. If this was an issue then people wouldn't get it. I mean what would be the purpose if the paint didn't match upon removal? The newer films such as Xpel Ultimate and Suntek are self healing and much more durable than Ventureshield. I installed Ventureshield for nearly 10 years until coming back to Texas. Here is just doesn't hold up to bugs and it did scratch easily. Xpel and Suntek will self heal and bugs do not etch the film. That's one of the reasons why I made the switch.

Same car
My car is the same as yours from the color of it to the clear bra, however mind only goes half of the hood,. I live in northern Cali, your installer did a beautiful job, I want to do the whole hood, u got mine installed by the dealer lexus of concord, they did a terrible job, had to have the hood piece redone. Just curious where your installer shop is located.

I guess we can compare this stuff to invisible shield and ghost armour for smart phones covers. I will try one of these brands myself shortly as I will be doing the install myself. Thanks for the good posts....

Does this mean detailing and polishing the car is no longer required after applying the PPF?

I called a local installer to inquire as to the price to have Xpel Ultimate installed on my vehicle. I was quoted $860 for the normal "bra" and $1,600 for the entire front end including the hood and fenders. For that price, you're very close to get a full repaint of the affected areas. I didn't feel the price justified the level of protection.

From what I've been told, polishing may really not be necessary (or recommended) because it is plastic after all. Polishing it likely going to damage it. But washing/claying/waxing etc - yes. Do it all over the car (including on the PPF) to make the car's appearance consistent.
