Default GS350 Tranny issue / dilemma

I'm looking at the GS350 RWD. Just having purchased a RX350 F Sport for my wife with the 8 speed tranny, I never find myself in any speed range where I can't just push down on the pedal and the car simply take off without shifting.

My concern is the 6 speed tranny that is in the '13 GS350 seems to have a tendency to hunt under the same circumstances if I'm correct. Namely due to more options of the car matching to its speed.

With the '14 IS F Sport and the '13 RX F Sport both having the 8 speed tranny, wouldn't it stand to reason the '14 GS F Sport will also gain that same 8 Speed tranny? I can get past the lower HP numbers, but that tranny truly makes the car feel and drive more nimble. I simply can't help but feel as though if I take delivery of this vehicle in April that I will a month later hear the next variant will have this modification and therefore undermine my decision where as I could have waited another 3 months and gotten the package I want as I can right now, but with the added driving selection of more gears and better economy.

I think it will probably get the 8 speed, yes.

I wouldn't automatically assume that your experience with the 8 speed in the RX will translate to the GS though, completely different powertrains.

Aside from AWD to RWD, the basic engine is the same. If anything, the tech in the GS will magnify the 8 Speed would be my logic.

You can't compare the two because its NOT!!!! the same engine.

The engine in the RX350 is the 3.5 L 2GR-FE V6 and has a HP rating of 266 hp to 280 hp at 6200 rpm with 245 lb·ft to 260 lb·ft of torque at 4700 rpm and is designed for front wheel applications. Ie... RX350, Camry, ES350, Avalon.....

On the GS 350 it uses the 3.5 L 2GR-FSE V6 which has 305 hp at 6,400 RPM and 278 lb·ft torque at 4,800 RPM and is designed to be used in RWD applications. Ie. only! used in is350 and Gs350 cars, no other Toyota cars have this engine in the US!

Now both cars do have AWD options and that's just a matter of different transmission/transfer case.

RX350 Does NOT = GS350.

Don't get too upset. I'm merely comparing the output numbers and torque figures. Same displacement, similar power curves, except the GS motor has a few more add-ons to allow it to achieve what it does. Both are fine motors too.

The comparison was meant to draw on HP numbers and torque figures going to the two different trannies. Not a big difference, though noticeable. Thanks for the particulars though. Good to know.
