Family Reunion
I was out today and was overjoyed when I realized all four generations of the GS were together in the same parking lot. I just had to share my joy with you guys lol. http://www.flickr.com/photos/seanjtracey/8626627244/http://www.flickr.com/photos/seanjtracey/8626627244/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/seanjtracey/, on Flickr[/IMG]

You know, looking at the generations side by side makes it apparent to me that Lexus went back to the 1GS for reference for the 4GS. The similar 2GS and 3GS are dissimilar to the 1GS and 4GS.

Pole Position
On a related note, I was always shocked by how spacious my second gen GS was compared to its competitors and to the other generations of GS.
That was a major factor in my deciding not to migrate to the 3GS as the downsizing of the interior was HUGE. When I first sat in the 3GS, my first thought was that the 3GS had to be in a different size segment to the 2GS, that was how noticeable the decrease in space was.
Fortunately, Lexus have sort of reversed things with the 4GS. Coming from a 2GS, the 4GS interior space is now tolerable. Still not ideal but no longer a deal-breaker.
I did some research and the online data backs up my subjective opinions :
1st Gen GS (1991 -1997)
Cargo Volume (EPA) 13 cu. ft.
Passenger Volume (EPA) 97 cu. ft
2nd Gen GS (1998 - 2005)
Cargo Volume (EPA) 15 cu. ft.
Passenger Volume (EPA) 100 cu.ft
3rd Gen GS ( 2006 - 2011)
Cargo Volume (EPA) 13 cu. ft.
Passenger Volume (EPA) 98 cu.ft
4th Gen GS ( 2012- )
Cargo Volume (EPA) 14 cu. ft.
Passenger Volume (EPA) 99 cu.ft
Just to illustrate how stark a difference was, a 2GS went from 115cu ft of total interior volume to 111cu. ft in a 3GS !!
That's almost like going down an entire size segment.
Just for completeness sake, here are the EPA volumes of the 4GS' closest competitors :
F10 BMW 5 series :
Cargo 14 cu.ft
Passenger 102 cu.ft
W212 MB E class :
Cargo 14 cu.ft
Passenger 97 cu.ft
C7 Audi A6 :
Cargo 14 cu.ft
Passenger 97 cu.ft
Jaguar XF :
Cargo 18cu.ft
Passenger 95cu.ft
