4GS Fuel discussion Premium or Regular Gas? (merged threads)

Yup, we're the only ones with crazy gas prices. It swings really wildly even within the same day though so there's thought that it's more likely collusion between the gas stations more than anything else.

$2.699 here in Orlando at Costco for 93 Premium. Every once in a while I have mixed in a third of a tank of 87 if the 93 premium gets over $3/gallon and the price difference between 87 and 93 is over $.40 per gallon. So putting in 5 gallons at a $.45 cent savings is $2.20 to ride around on 91 Premium mix. I have done this probably three times as gas has been pretty steady below $3 here in Florida. Is it my way of thinking a penny saved is a penny earned thing.

Me too, I worked with 2 different EPA certification engineers that insisted I put nothing but Chevron Supreme in our EPA test cars.
People always want to improve the performance of their cars but don't want to pay for the best gas.

You could have saved a whole bunch of pennies by buying a less expensive car. So, why didn't you do that if you follow the 'a penny saved is a penny earned' proverb?

What, both sides of TP are useable? I will be rich now! It is humorous to see the different spending habits of people and what they consider important. Some people only drink a certain kind of bottled water, others drink from the tap. Unless you are in Flint, MI. It is all good we all can express different opinions. The common theme is we are all Lexus owners. I would say put identical cars on the track with 87 Octane in one and Premium in the other and go at it for 1/4 mile. Or we can settle this like the Hatfields and McCoys.

By saving that money I was able to buy more expensive cars and other things. I probably have saved about $7k or so in gas over the span of those cars just because I see no benefit in putting a higher octane fuel in there. Now the Gallardo I put in 93 octane and regularly drive around very aggressively just to burn gas as it is much more fun and therapeutic to me.
