It's a thing they used to put on cars with automatic transmissions before there were throttle position sensors and computer controls. It was a switch that when you pressed the gas pedal down far enough would tell the transmission to kick down into a lower gear. It seems rather bizarre to have such a thing these days. It's all done with sensors and software now... so I'm not sure why they would even mention it.

I'd take 6speed and AWD vs 8 speed and RWD any day of the week. But I live in Chicago where our winters can be brutal.

I need to move. Every year I keep saying this. 30 years later, I'm still in Chicago. LOL ... I'm actually looking forward to the snow this winter. Time to put the GS's AWD and cold weather package to the test.

I agree with you, as I would only get the AWD based on where I live. The issue is that the AWD had already suffered from worse MPG due to the added weight.
An enthusiast probably would only care about the performance, but for those who plan to utilize the car for commuting, MPG is also very important.
As it stands, RWD gets the option of rear steering, better brakes / two-piece rotor on the F-sport, while these options were not available on the AWD. The 8 speed would have benefited the AWD. Looks like Lexus is the only manufacturer to change the number of gears based on drive configuration. (at least that I know off).

MPG is marginally different at about 1-2 miles. With the exception of RWS, I thought the brakes were the same. Regardless, I don't plan on tracking the car. I do like to get around in the snow. Different needs for different drivers.

Have you guys heard anything lately regarding the release date of the 2014 GS models? Others had mentioned in earlier threads about October but it's getting toward mid-September now with no officlal word from Lexus yet...
