Ok I have a question, so my car came with this feature which I feel was a little dumb. Does it only cover the front windows and not the back and also does anyone know if it really works.
It use a microphone to sense the high pitch noise when the glass broken. So it should work with any windows. You can test by sitting inside the cabin and tapping to 2 wrench together or clapping your hand to simulate the noise.
When they installed it in my car, i asked how they tested it, to see if it's working. The instructions said to tap hard on the window. The service people were nervous when testing, because they said they had to tap very hard.
Yah, that one is a bit pricey. You could probably get one on ebay for 15-20 bucks. I have one sitting around from a security system install i did in my house.
FWIW, I had the glass breakage sensor when I had my Camry. That didn't stop the thieves from breaking into the car, tear up my dash, steal my stereo and other misc items. They disco'd the battery and that was all she wrote for the alarm. Thank God insurance paid for everything.
