Holy thread revival... Puck, how are you liking the remote start? I'm looking to get the smart start from viper installed. Is it true you can use the Lexus fob to start the car?The installer I spoke with said it enables that feature. Also, did they install two modules?

No idea about the two modules.
I had the viper responder one installed with no smart start. The installer said he could use the lexus fob but the range would be extremely limited. It works, my butt is warm but when I go to open the door the car shuts off.
The only thing I would have done different is maybe added the smart start. It depends on how far away you park your car. For me, I live in a house so my car is only a few feet a way. At work same thing. No matter where I park in the lot (usually all the way in the back ) it works fine, but then again my office lot is small. The only time I really can't start my car is if I'm in a large shopping mall or like a home depot kinda place.

Ahh ok. I'm actually opting for the smart start only package, which I didn't realize they had until today. I didn't know that the module added RS functionality to the key fob. That was a nice surprise lol. The shop I talked to said it would run about $400 installed. Hopefully I can get it done later today!

See I had this same problem. My fix came easily, I switched out the remote battery and it worked pretty good again. Turns out the oem battery the remote comes with isn't that great. Energizer did the trick for me lol

Lexus says it's a security feature. Anytime someone tries to access your vehicle they can't drive away with it. Seems like there could've been a better fix to that lol but eh I don't mind

I have the viper smart start with the phone app and I love it on my GX. Works with the phone or if you are close the factory FOB. I have the factory remote start on my GS and I think it shuts off much sooner than it does on my GX.

So I got the Viper installed today! I love it. everything is works as expected. They're a lot of features I still have to look into like the smart schedule and the car diagnostic codes features...

awesome glad you're liking it! Does the car turn off when you open the door or does it stay on?

Nope, turns off... I expected that though. While I was there I got a look at the info page and what modules are compatible with the GS. I'm sure someone smarter than me can take one of these and disable shutdown when you unlock the doors somehow! http://www.xpresskit.com/VehicleComp...9&ps=1&s=0&c=0

MythBusters confirmed this one. I've confirmed it myself with various remotes over the years. Sounds weird, but it works.
