I'd just wait till the GS F is out and get the best of both. Japanese reliability matched with the power to really put a smile on your face at the saving of a little more at the pump for a lot less than. 2 car payments.

the reason i consider with a7 is the look and more room than the 4GS (wont fit in my garage )also the audi has quattro system standarded, no problem during dry wet even snow, with the turbo engine u always can chip it with turbo engine u probably gain another 30-40 hp depends on the program , for me i prefer audi cuz of course "quattro" also i only seen 2 in my area but 4GS,i lost count already, also more fun with turbo engine. but for the long run i will go with 4GS cuz lexus holds better resale value than another brand, however i change my car every 18 to 24 months thats reason i choose a7 over 4gs.

I'm super impressed with Audi ratings/engines . Can't speak for reliability but the new Tdi engines are enticing.

We have 4 audis in the family. My father has a 2012 audi a8l which has 30k miles and its solid and reliable. His 2006 Audi A8L did 175k miles and it was fantastic with no problems. I do the maintenance on his car and take it to dealer for new brakes, servicing, tires. etc. I have no qualms about Audi reliability anymore. My cousins A5 and Q5 are fantastic after 2 years. They live next door to me and they have no problems unlike the BMWs.

I also know a lot of people with newer Audis and they've been quite good.

Have a good friend with an A5, and a good friend with an S5. The one thing is they use a lot of oil...like 1.5 qts every 1500 miles.

I guess my experiences are a bit different with them. I had an '06 model and it was great. Went in the shop one time for an A/C switch failure. Otherwise was a dream. The other 2 cars I've had from them were always were in the shop. Thought the first like that was a fluke, but when I had to go through lemon law on the final one, that was the last straw. I ended up winning and I'm obviously biased as a result. But I simply couldn't work and be at the dealer full time. Especially when issues that arose affected my ability to even drive the car.

I'm sure some could say the same on a Lexus car as well. But between the 2 I had and several others who recently have gotten Audi product, I think the likelyhood is much greater on failures as I've noticed their service and warranty/service programs had taken a nosedive over the last 5 years. Obviously YMMV, but I still think it's a safer bet by staying with the GS. Plus the materials in the Audi are full of what I thought were cheap plastics.

As someone who is going through that somewhat with our Jeep (no lemon law, just always something wrong with it) I understand where you're coming from. After that experience with other good options I'd stay away from Audi too.

I hear so many horror stories with Audi. My friend had an A6 that was always in the shop. Burned a lot of oil too. Transmission died at around 90K. This was a 2000 model. He now has a 2005 S4 and has to baby it. Each week another small issue. Oil light keeps coming on. And it burns oil.

I really wanted A7 too but heard too many horror stories.

I don't know that I would use a 2000 A6 and a high performance 2005 S4 as examples of how owning a brand new Audi would be. I mean, the 2000 is almost 14 years old, and the 2005 is almost 9.

A new A7 owned within the warranty won't be anything like those cars.

While not indicative of a new car. It's the best example currently of how those cars age should you keep your vehicles that long. If anything, their quality has gone down since 2006 area. And Audi does consider oil burning to be normal for some reason in their vehicles. Something like a quart of oil for ever 3-5k miles. I personally don't find that very comforting.

I owned a '97 Grand Cherokee Limited for about 5 years and that vehicle was in the shop about every week. Rotors, tranny, sunroof motor, A/C, Rear axle replacement, and you get the idea. I loved that car dearly and had many fond memories in it despite the amount of grief it gave me. Perhaps that was because I was in college during that time period. But at the 75k mileage marker, I sold it off and changed brands.

My sister had a 99' GC Loredo and she hardly had any issues with hers. So it's a mixed bag. But generally to this day, most people have a lot of maintenance on them. Still a fun car to drive though

Both those cars I mentioned had issues shortly after purchase. He bought both used, about 4 years used. The reason I mention them is because I like to keep my cars 10+ years. The car has to age gracefully. My last two cars were Toyota Camry. Both still run today. Still no major issues. That's what I love about Japanese cars.

I still like the Germans. Maybe I'll lease one the next time I'm in the market.

I know how it feels. I had to lemon my 2011 BMW 535 xdrive because of this damn vibration on the highway. POS. I hate BMW and would not buy one in more then 10-15 years or ever.
