Not normal to replace the rotors on first replacement of pads unless the rotors sustained a lot of damage. Generally, they can be shaved a few times.

Maybe it's just me ... but I think the stock rotors wear pretty fast. At least faster than my last car.

With about 9K miles on my car, my rotors seemed to have a slight ridge on them where the outside edge of the pad met the rotor. My driving mix is about 80% hwy / 20% street.

I also don't think rotors normally need resurfacing that fast.

Yeah, that's way too soon to wear out rotors. But generally the brakes with the most bite has the shortest life span. The same with tires.

Thanks everyone for your tips.

South Bay Lexus said they could not get the TSB done due to the fact that the brakes were way too worn out... however they said out of good will they will replace the rotors and perform labor for free if I were to pay the brake pads... which came to about 90 something plus tax.... way better than the 600 + I was going to pay before. Thank you!

Hmm I replaced my pads before I hit 20,000 miles also. I thought it was a bit early too. They bit me with labor though.

Glad it worked out for you Thomas. No way should rotors need to be replaced that soon.

I don't expect the OEM pads in the GS to last long though. 20K might be about all they get. There is a lot of brake dust on the rims every time I drive, which isn't all that much. That's the price you have to pay I guess.
