Glove box door problem
Just checking if anyone else has had this problem. Recently, when I opened the glove box, the door stopped after about an inch, so I carefully pulled it open the rest of the way. I checked to see if there was an obstruction preventing the door from smoothly opening all the way, but there was nothing. Now, when closed, there is a rattle coming from the area of the glove box. If I open the door all the way, the rattle stops.
It's weird, but I had the same problem with a 2010 LS460 and the entire glove box was replaced. I made an appointment to have it checked out next Thursday.

Weird. could something have fallen into the hinge mechanism?

I couldn't see any hinges or any other parts that prevent the door from free falling after opening it. Everything seems to be covered. When opening or closing the door, I can feel something rubbing right at the point where the door stops. I even took the removable shelf out to make sure that wasn't in the way. Hope I'll find out next week what's causing the problem.

After looking at the glove box door again, I noticed the plastic panel below the glove box does not fit correctly on the side closest to the center console. When the glove box is opened, the bottom of the door hits this panel and stops the door from continuing to open. The vinyl covering on the bottom of the left side of the glove box door is beginning to tear from rubbing on the lower panel. I tried to straighten the lower panel, but since it is already misaligned, I'm afraid to either make it worse, or break a clamp. Now that I know what is causing the problem, I can show a technician and hopefully have it fixed properly.
