Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport+ same crap

One of the top gear episodes... (the British one and not the dumb American knock off) Jeremy had the Stig drive a car in eco, normal and Sport modes on the same track...
granted it wasn't a lexus but I think we'd all agree these driving modes work about the same....
the track times was all similar, and ECO, actually came out the fastest by some fractions of a second..

Unless they had him drive several times and took the average in each mode, how do they account for different driver response in each attempt? A human driver can't drive (accelerate/brake/steer) in exactly the same way 3 times in a row. Even a slight change in when the driver brakes or identifying the apex at a turn will cause that difference
2. Most professional racers can keep very consistent lap times when NOT competing.
3. If you are the only car on the track which you've driven for 15 seasons... the times become even more consistent.
But all joking aside...
The point I'm making is that when you are full throttling, it pretty much doesn't matter. I'm not saying that Eco faster.

Theoretically, yes, eco mode should be used in the city with frequent accelaration, but I think it a real world driving it is the opposite. On my first 900 miles as of today Eco vs. normal in city is the same, but definitely a difference in highway. always, it's your driving habit, too.

plugged in my ODB2 Bluetooth module and onto my phone using torque. Torque has a built in 0-60 that reads off the ECU so... pretty accurate, better than GPS ones...
Turned off traction and took it from 0-60 and sport and normal. i wasn't at the track so i usually do this on the way to work...
i've done it twice so far.
Normal: 6.67 (Raining) traction off
Sport: 6.7 (Colder dry day) traction on
I didn't rev up for proper launch on purpose, just trying to get a comparison...

WOT is WOT no matter which mode you are using. So I am of the opinion that once you are at WOT, performance is the same. From a standing start, however, the performance modes may get you to WOT sooner.

not sure what the OP's point is. even if we grant the OP's statement as true, the car isn't just a binary switch with WOT or no throttle. The stuff in between matters. So it's not just the same crap.
Unless you really do just drive like a switch and only go between 100% WOT and 0 Throttle.

What EXACTLY happens when i switch to Sport+ mode?
Do i have special shocks that can be stiffened up with air/fluid change?
How is the steering "tightened up". is there a similar steering damper that is adjustable?

as far as the 0-60 you might be correct on that one but there is a HUGE difference between modes. Mine is a 2014 GS 350 RWD and when i put it in Sport mode the steering wheel stiffens up dramatically, the throttle response is much more precise. You barely touch it and it flies.
I willing to bet you will be few tenths of a second faster in Sport mode than ECO because it holds in gear longer and plus a 0-60 you talking about 5.5 secs. You can get a WAY better launch on Sport mode than ECO so i think it will slightly faster. i never drive on ECO, it sucks. Normal is perfect, if i want more speed and better cornering i put in Sport.
