Any speculation as to why Lexus limited this? I only ask because my minivan has a button on the key, the door, and inside the vehicle, and they all both open and close the 'trunk' of the van.

Pure speculation: they're worried about getting sued if somebody gets their finger stuck in the trunk lid while it's closing, or something like that. With the button on the bottom of the lid you have to stand near the trunk to close it, which gives them the "dude, you were right there!" defense.

Lexus told me the issue is safety so someone does not get their heads chopped off while looking in the trunk and you are closing from inside the car even if buzzer lets you know trunk is closing.

Yes it is a safety issue my mothers BMW does the same thing you have the push the button from the tailgate.

Cop out... the new BMW's close from the fob, the trunk and the button inside.

It works like the pinch resistance windows, if it meets resistance, it stops and reverses. Lexus is really late to the game on this.

For those of you that have this option, can ypu open the trunk by swiping your foot under the bumper (like BMW's comfort access option)?

You sure my mothers is a 2013 and the 2014 did the same thing is it only in the cars.
