Default Rear License Plate

Any one use some type of padding between the metal license plate and the painted luggage lid?
In past vehicles I've had small scratches in the area due to rubbing. What's everyone use?

I usually do what you are suggesting also. Coincidentally, I just put my plates on yesterday. There is padding under their from the factory that looks like it will keep the plate from rubbing.

How's the foam holding up? Any scratches? Seems like a good idea!

Take a wine cork, cut it in half long way, slide it between the plate and car. Worked for me!
