Default My Day with an Audi A6

I took my awesome 2013 Audi SQ5 in for its 5k mile service. I asked for an A6 courtesy car so I could see how it compares to the GS. I gotta tell ya, I am so underwhelmed with the A6. I think the GS350 beats it in almost every way.

The below is totally my personal opinion...

A6 beats the GS
  • nimbleness - The A6 feels lighter compared to the GS. When I drive the GS, it feels like the front end is heavy. The A6 felt more nimble to me and like the front end was lighter.
  • Parking Assist - like my SQ5, I like how I can push a button to engage the backup camera when I am pulling the vehicle into the garage. I can easily tell when I've pulled in far enough (without having to put the car in reverse).

GS beat the A6
  • Interior materials - The quality of materials in the GS is in a totally different class then the A6. The A6 has lots of plastic "leather" and what seemed to me to be something like I would find in a cheap car.
  • Body Style - The A6 has a pretty classic and clean body style. Certainly not bad, but I like the aggressiveness of the GS better.
  • Acceleration - While neither the GS or A6 seem very quick to me (I guess I'm spoiled by my SQ5's 354 hp Supercharged engine), the A6 didn't feel as peppy to me as the GS.
  • Seats - the GS FSport seats are light years ahead of the A6. The A6 seats are really short and don't offer good thigh support or lateral support. They actually remind me of the seats I had in my 1965 VW Bug.

Default Audi S7 vs Lexus GS 350 F Sport

I spent a few hours driving an Audi S7 recently and wasn't overly impressed either. It was a cool looking car and has more power than my Lexus, but I decided againgst trading my Lex. The interior on the Audi wasn't as nice as my lex and seemed too "busy" with too many red and blue lights/buttons. The quality of the materials wasn't as good either. My wife didn't care for it at all....styling, interior, exterior. I loved the 420 hp V8 but it didn't "feel" that much faster than my Lexus...even though I had the Audi to 120 For $88,000 I was expecting more to be honest

Glorified VWs with crappy reliability. That's what my Independent Euro Mechanic calls them.

I have driven an A 8 with that same engine and can't even remotely in my wildest imagination see how you can come away saying it didn't feel much faster than you GS. You must not have floored the accelerator at all. And I've seen plenty of road tests backing up my impressions of the car. It feels like it has 500 hp.

Interesting review, your A6 must have been a 4 cylinder model. Otherwise your review just doesn't make sense and I doubt dealer would stock 6 cylinder for their loaner.

Park assist on Lexus is inferior to even non luxury cars in segment, most agrees to that.

Exactly. The 3.0 Supercharged engine in the Audi is very strong. OP, it's the same engine in your SQ5, just with a few fewer HP. So you must have been driving the 2.0T.

I also agree that the Park Assist in the Lexus sucks compared to the Audi or BMW. The BMW especially was great, but didn't turn on in the front automatically.

I went and looked in the glove box and the A6 is a 2.0 Premium Plus. That would explain the acceleration. I'm sure if it had the same 3.0 Supercharged that is in my SQ5, I would feel much differently because in my SQ5 it is really peppy.

I love the A6 and probably would be in one if the numbers worked out but the A6 was much more.I do love the GS,though.

Was at our auto show a few weeks back. I had a chance to sit in a number of the MB models, B, C and E classes. I then sat in a series Mitsubishi models that were a short walk away and the level and quality of finish in the interiors felt equal. So your assessment of the A6 does not surprise me.

Did not get near the new S class, too many 14 and 15 year olds surrounding it to get near. :- )

I had an S5 Cab prior to my GS F Sport. It was special ordered in Daytona Gray with Tuscan leather. I thought the materials were really nice and I liked the layout. Loved the Supercharged V6.

However, when I wanted to move to a sedan neither the A6 nor A7 interiors appealed to me at all. The GS had it hands down in that department, and I didn't feel like I was giving up a thing. I do love the exterior of the A7, but it has the same interior as the A6, which is to say busy. The Audi MMI has it over the mouse in the GS though.
