And it only took 15.5 gallons to fill up the 17.4 gallon tank so there's still mileage left even if the car says 0. I felt like Kramer from Seinfeld trying to see how far the GS will go on E.

Yeah, I'd say you have 40-50 miles after it reaches 0 before you'll completely run out.

Haha, Kramer from Seinfeld!. I do this once in a while but I ran out of fuel twice in winter time in morning due to very low fuel so I avoid it now. I could do an extra 30-40 miles past 0.

Wow, good to know. I was wondering why I was averaging the same MPG as my old G37 and getting about 40 miles less per fill up. Thanks for being the guinea pigs... I didn't have the ball to try it myself LOL

I ignore the cruising range for the most part. It's there for people that don't do math (i.e. 300 miles on the trip meter, 19mpg, 15-ish gallons to fill a 17.4g tank, still have some mileage left).

Japanese cars have always had this safety buffer built in to prevent you from sitting on the side of the road waiting for AAA to show up. Sure, they lie to you, but for the best reason.

Some people trust the information that computer provides as if it were dead nuts accurate. I use it as a VERY general reference.

Took it to zero this morning - thanks to this thread had no oggita about it! Took 15.55 gallons to fill. Guess it has a pretty healthy reserve!

OP, I see you are in ECO mode, I would think this would make a little difference in range from those who drive in say Normal, or Sport mode. In my hybrid, I have gone down to 10 miles left according to the display, and it too did not take the full 17+ gallons to refill. That is my limit! Even with the generous cushion it appears we have.
