Default Gas Mileage update 1500 mile trip

Just got back from 1500 mile East Coast trip. I was cruising in ECO mode most of the time and averaged between 29'.5 to 31+ MPG. I didn't figure actual refill to refill calc. but this isn't bad.
Just thought I'd share.

I'm guessing this is a RWD 2013 model. (Based on your odo and mpg.) Am I right?

Not too shabby, but Eco isn't designed for highway driving, it's designed for city driving where you do a lot of stopping and going. Normal mode works better for highway/interstate travel.

Wow I am envious. ..I normally get 29 mpg max on highway only and about 25mpg combined city and highway.

Pretty good, I found myself getting 27 MPG but I had to go really slow, around 60 MPH or less. Yep I know better gas mileage lower speed, car just begs to be driven faster.

Yeah I didn't either at first, you think Eco is economy mode period. But the things it does encourages the car to save energy. It'll slow down the AC blower fan, shift early, and physically make you work harder on the gas pedal. All these things are significantly more helpful in city traffic. On the highway, cruising at a locked speed, none of these techniques help much because the car should be running at peak efficiency in the top gear. Actually it can hurt mileage vs. normal mode, because it will be lazy with the cruise control speed (to avoid downshifting) and in a hilly drive, it will wait until you've lost 5mph or so before it speeds up. What happens when you throttle late on a climb? You throttle more. So by comparison, normal mode would be less frugal with shifting, and keep your speed closer to the target speed.

It's counterintuitive and the sales people probably don't even know this. Also, I don't know about you, but Eco mode is the last thing I want in crowded city driving. Most of the time I'm cranking the dial to the right.

Default eco mode

Afrosheen:
good call! Yes I now agree with you as the car exhibited all of those Traits you mentioned while in cruise control. Will be going to regular mode on next trip. Thanks: for sharing
