K&N Intake Released for 4GS

It's not noise all the time, it would only be at 5K RPMs and above. I've had the typhoon on the 2GR-FSE engine...I know what results to expect.
I'll report back. If anything, the k&n air filter will allow it to breathe better. Plus I'll never have to replace the air filter ever again.
I'm getting 16MPG, so we'll see if that gets any better at all.

I have the K&N Typhoon on my car, installed it last week.
There's no additional noise (that I can hear), in fact I think it's quieter than stock. I suspect that is the case for 2 reasons - The factory sound creator is responsible for most of the intake noise on the factory intake and the K&N pipe eliminates that.
The second reason is I have an aftermarket exhaust so I couldn't hear the factory intake either.
As far as additional power is concerned, there is a small improvement in throttle response above 4500 rpm which is in line with where K&N' s dyno chart shows the intake made the most hp and tq.
The total install time for me was 40 mins and that includes removal and reinstallation of my Tanabe strut bar.
The fact that this retains the stock airbox for (emissions purposes), is relatively inexpensive, easy to install and uses a filter that never needs to be replaced makes it worthwhile.

So it's basically quieter than stock? Like not having an intake kit?

At lower RPMs there's not really any difference in sound, but when you get around 4000 RPM+ it is a bit quieter than stock. I feel a bit more pull at the top end, so I guess that's the trade off.

Yeah, I installed mine today. It is definitely quieter than stock. I essentially paid $191 for an air filter and a shiny tube.
This is not at all what I was expecting. I have no idea what the difference is between this and the Typhoon for the 3GS, other than the removal of the actual air box. I also think the metal tube for the 3GS is longer.
I haven't noticed any additional HP gain, and likely won't. I won't be able to tell if I'm getting better gas mileage until I drive it for a while.
What a waste.
I bought mine from AutoAnything.com. No tax, free shipping and they seemed to have the lowest price on it...$191.99. Plus they threw in a free cleaning/oil refresh kit for the filter.
Hopefully our experiences will be warnings to everyone else, expecting the louder sound.

If you want louder sound you can cut out some air holes
/ slots in the lower part of the air box on the side (you only need 3-4 lines) and it will be louder than the stock.
Look at the is350 f sport intake on the previous gen. The lower air box section has an opening. A lot of guys cut some 1cm wide vents in that section of the stock intake and it sounded great.
I haven't done this on my gs but I will bet you it will give you the same effect and sound great all though the rpm range when you step on it.

For those considering this option, AEM makes one too (AEM-22-688C), though they only list it for the 2015+ RC350. It's the same tube and filter, though there's is dry. I capped off the sound generator on my stock one to see what it would sound like and I enjoy the pure engine sound. I'm considering the AEM or K&N for the mild performance benefit and that because it's quieter, any axle-back exhaust option I get will be more noticeable from the drivers' seat.
