Default 2013 GS 350 RWD Throttle Response

Hey Everyone,

Just bought a used 2013 GS350 RWD and am really loving it. I've been driving some form of truck or SUV for the last 15 years, so this car is a bit of an adjustment!

There's one "issue" that's bugging me and that's throttle response. I'm not sure if this is typical behavior, some kind of setting, or just an issue with my car. Regardless of what mode I'm in, it seems as if I have to push the accelerator about a 1/2" to 1" before it really kicks in... really messes with my timing when coming from a stop at a light or even more so pulling out into traffic... it just feels like there's a bit of a delay when I'm first pushing in on the pedal coming from a stop. It's not that it's a major issue... it just feels "weird."

So... Is this normal behavior for this car? Anything I can do to try to adjust it? Should I have it looked at?

Thanks!

Yes, my 2014 also has this problem. I don't know if it's a real problem or if Lexus programmed it that way. I know what u mean, there is a little delay in the throttle response and u can feel it when pulling out into traffic. My Camry didn't have this delay, so yes I can feel the difference too. I'm not talking about the 8-speed shifting issue, that is a whole different issue. And u have 2013 so it's a 6-speed and no shifting problem.

I noticed something similar in my '14 FSport. Initially, i thought it was grossly underpowered but after punching that last 'inch' in the pedal, all was good. I'm used to it now, and like that the pedal is 'stepped'.

I've had 3 Lexus sedans over the past 8 years and all have been the same. '94 ES300, '01 GS430 and now '13 GS350 F-Sport. This is not a "problem" with the vehicle, Lexus does this with all their vehicles for some reason. I personally think it's to save fuel, you don't want the car down shifting and revving high if you're barely touching the pedal. To some extent I believe it gives you more control over the vehicle.

My gf had an '06 Altima that would jump every time you barely touched the pedal and I hated it, felt like there was no control. Her current '07 RX350 responds how mine does, slight push nice and steady, push hard get up and go!

I agree with you on most of their cars this seems to be the norm. However on the two IS-F's I have owned this throttle problem was not an issue. So for me coming from the IS-F to the GS I noticed this "lag" and am still adjusting to it.

Also this car seems to move better at highway speeds rather than from a stop or at lower speeds. Just my observation.

I've hated the throttle response ever since my first test drive (though it is still better than the Porsche Caymans that I tested). The only way I drive the car now is if it is in Sport mode, though it bugs me to have to turn the dial each time I get in the car. Sometimes I forget to turn Sport mode on but within a couple of seconds I get annoyed with how slow the car feels and then I remember to turn it on.

Yeah its normal it was actually worse in the 2GS the delay was way longer so you would be expecting to pass someone but it would arrive to late.

When you feel the need to accelerate quickly while rolling, manually shift down

thanks for the replies!

i think i'll get used to it... just wanted to make sure that it wasn't an issue with my car. for me, this delay occurs even in sport mode. i'd consider an aftermarket solution but don't want to risk the warranty. it's just a minor thing to get used to... overall, i really love the car.

thanks again!

Default Throttle response

Hi guys new here but a similar situation exists on Toyota models as well ( I just traded my 2010 Venza AWD v6 for a new 2014 GS350 AWD, pick it up today or Sat.). The parts guys at my Toyota dealer (attached to my new Lexus dealer) suggested a signal amplifier that hooks in to the wiring above the gas pedal. This is available through Toyota and in Canada it was about $500.00 installed. It looks like plug and play to me. I never had it done but I am going to look into it for my new GS. As explained to me the signal amplifier doesn't change performance per se, but does improve throttle response time in effect making your car respond quicker which improves driveability. If it eliminates the hesitation, you take of quicker so the car is faster in that sense.

I used to have one of those electronic throttle controllers on my Camry and they really do work well, it made the car super quick. Mine was fully adjustable and u can set from Power 1-9 or Eco 1-7, and at Power 9 it turned my Camry into one fast grocery getter. I still have the unit but unfortunately it doesn't fit the GS' gas pedal plug.
