It is also on the regular V6 Highlander starting in 2017, not just the hybrid.

Updates to the Highlander’s powertrain include a more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 and a new eight-speed automatic transmission. An automated stop/start function, which shuts off the engine when idling to further save fuel, is standard on all but the base LE trim.

Gas cannot efficiently pass through a dirty oil filter, obviously.

Why would gas be passing through an oil filter?

It could have, car was bought used prior to the trip, it sat for a while, I don't know what kind of oil was put in it, how it was driven, air filter was somewhat dirty, it was parked in a dusty area, engine bay was dusty, could have had a slight effect.

I came from an 05 accord with an i4 engine getting 25mpg avg and now I have rwd v6 averaging 22 and I drive more aggressively to enjoy the car so I think I’m doing pretty well with mileage. Long trips ive seen I can easily get above 30mpg but I do mostly city drivings. I’m glad we don’t have start/stop cause I hated that when I drove my friends bmw. I think engineering explained looked into the benefits of it and said something like if you’re going to be sitting longer than 7 seconds it may be worth it, otherwise it doesn’t make a difference

If you were really concerned about mpg you shoulda looked for the hybrid. It’s just a lot more rare

I've had the car for 6 months now and I've never gotten above 22 mpg combined. I usually get around 20 mpg, even with 60%-70% highway driving.

I let my brother borrow the car for a day and he came back with an average of 24.3 mpg... I guess it's really just my driving habits and not the car haha.
