Why do it yourself when you can take it to any Discount Tire Dealer and have them do it for free. I always tip the guy that does it $20. Takes about 15 minutes and you don't get your hands dirty.

No discount tires here. Nobody here will do it for free unless you've bought tires from them.

If you have a costco or Sam's club membership, they will rotate your tires for free.

I do have a costco membership, but that means I have to:

1. Go to Costco. One of my least favorite places on earth.
2. Wait.

At Lexus I can just roll in and either wait there or get a loaner and get it on my way home from work. Or I can take it to my guy and he does it in 15 minutes while I'm waiting there. Even if that costs me $80 or $100...I don't have to:

1. Go to Costco
2. Wait.

Default lEXUS gs350 SERVICE

I have got to tell you I have found that the local TOYOTA delaers have been wonderful on servicing the 2014 gs350.. PRICING is Toyota pricing and hundreds less for identical parts and service..

Interesting around us... lots of the toyota service mechanics come out of lexus shops because there is not as much dealer repair work for them at the lexus facility... More money to be made at toyota..

so same parts accessibility... same engine... same training.. less costs

YMMV

Just sharing related information on my recent trip to the local Lexus dealer.

40k service for my 2013 GS F-Sport at Lexus of Alexandria was quoted at $180, including oil change and filter and a lot of "inspections." Service rep mentioned tire rotation and I questioned that on an F-Sport. He said you're right, staggered wheels, they would be doing front tire balance instead.

I said I'd be bringing my oil with me (love me some Mobil 1!) and he offered another $50 off. I could do the oil change myself but at $130 (probably $150 after tax and fees).

Also mentioned the TSB on the front door aluminum trim panels and he didn't agree to it right away, just said a technician would have to look to confirm if the vehicle warranted the service. Huh? If the trim is soft, I want it replaced regardless of whether it's ok right now. I think I'll have to be more insistent when I drop the car off.

While I was there bought a bottle of touch up paint for $18.

Overall the lobby was nice, multiple seating areas, boards that listed the folks with appointments and their service advisors, free coffee, soda, donuts, etc. They said to make the appointment a week ahead of time if I wanted a loaner car. Rather busy with about 8-10 people listed on the board every hour, however it was a Saturday morning so I guess it makes sense.

Thats what I don't understand. The only difference between your 40k service and the 30k is:

1. Brake Fluid Change
2. Cabin & engine air filters
3. Smart key battery

And a bunch of additional inspections. $180 is what I paid for the 20k from Rockville...I think thats reasonable for that service with the perks and benefits of the Lexus dealer. When I called Alexandria their price on the 30k was $570!! Why are they charging $400 more just to do those 3 things an inspect items you would expect would be looked at anyways as an opportunity to sell additional service?

Pretty sure they would use Toyota Genuine 0W-20, which is a semi-synthetic.

Easy enough for me to pick up a 5-gal jug of Mobil 1 0W-20 at Walmart for $25 early on a Sunday morning, that way I know exactly what's going in my baby.

My guess is the additional items are estimated for a couple hours labor at $150/hr, and then another $100 in parts. You are paying a premium for everything...

To the best of my knowledge, TGMO 0W-20 is a full synthetic, made by Mobil 1 with a special lubrication additive pack formulated by Toyota for Toyota/Lexus. Don't believe there are any semi-synthetic 0W-20 oils.
